Tired of getting stapled on your squat any time it gets kind of hard?

Well, this video is for you.

What am I missing?

Does you squat need help?

This post is largely an easy how-to on pressing because I’m learning what’s common sense to me, isn’t to others. Only took 10 years of coaching to learn this.😬

There isn’t really a right or wrong way to position your elbows on horizontal pressing: both with dumbbells or a bar. Rather comfortable and adequate joint space, or inadequate and uncomfortable: possibly needing addressing.

Rather than just scrap the movement entirely, find what works. Work around and through said issue.

Pinching isn’t something to ignore, but it isn’t something you have to be terrified of.

I’ve thrown a lot of nebulous terms in the picture purposefully. Hopefully you read this far.

Sometimes when we struggle to get into proper positions, or create a stimulus in a desired position, it’s not that we can’t do it.

Sometimes, our body will self select the position, and admittedly, it may not be good or “proper”.

Creating constraints on movements can be beneficial.

I’ve used a foam roller for rotation work, both core and hips, and for a b stance RDL.

The intent is the same: limit movement in one area, to focus on movement in another.

You probably aren’t bad, you just move too much.

Deadlifting: the more you lift, the more you notice.

A deadlift, is inherently not a squat, though it has squat-like similarities.

If you’re consistently trying to do a weird deep knee bend, squat into the bar, to do a deadlift, you’re going to have an unfun time.

Understanding how to hinge, where to hinge and how to create tension, will stop you from st****er poling your pulls.

Do you need help with your deadlift? Let’s chat.

What should you expect when you hirer a coach?

Someone who pushes you, obviously: especially to do things you don’t necessarily want to do.

But, the less obvious:
1) trouble shoot why something doesn’t work.
2) maximize what does work.
3) help you, as a trainee to question the why.
4) build your confidence in lifts or activities you struggle with.
5) be supportive, but not a yes man.

And for good nature: be your biggest hype man, especially when you achieve greatness.

Are you someone who struggles to get through their program or training day, citing: “I just never have enough time”, “I don’t know why it takes so long”.

Well, here are some easily actionable things you can do:
1) yap less: the gym is social, but you don’t need to have full conversations every time.
2) time your rests: this is the easiest way to stay on track.
3) put your phone away: assuming you doomsday scroll, and cannot stop yourself.
4) move with some urgency: stop being Eeyore.
5) superset less fatiguing patterns: ie. ab exercises, bi and tri, shoulder accessories.
6) spend less time resting between warm up sets: going bar to 70 on your squat doesn’t warrant 3-10 min breaks. Do better.

K, peace out, bye.

You probably suck at rowing.

That’s okay, I did too.

Stop rolling your shoulders forward, stop shrugging. 90% of your problems will improve.

K, peace out, bye.

As a fairly average fitness goer, I watch, study and learn from those that have created and produced exceptionalities.

Whether it is wealth, sport performance or business growth.

Now, obviously this isn’t exhaustive, but these three traits seem to be consistent in all groups above.

Why this matters:
1) if you aren’t hitting goals: you probably lack focus to the task you want
2) probably lack consistent direction
3) probably always chasing the next shiny thing, instead of putting your head down.

High performers have grit.
