What if creating more harmony at home doesn’t begin with changing our children… but with becoming more aware of the patterns we are all part of?
Our homes are made up of routines, emotions, relationships, expectations, and patterns, many of which we repeat without even realizing it.
Sometimes, simply pausing to notice them can open the door to change.
This Wednesday, I’ll be joining Tree Ryde for "Home Harmony Parenting: Managing Stress & Household Patterns", a practical and supportive workshop for parents raising busy children and teens.
Together, we’ll explore:
🌱 The patterns that shape our home environment
🌱 Evidence-based tools for managing stress and family friction
🌱 Ways to stay connected during challenging moments
🌱 Realistic self-care strategies that support the whole family
🌱 Practical tools to help you feel more confident and present
And there is another reason this workshop is especially meaningful to me:
❤ 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Neighbor 2 Neighbor, supporting families in our local community.
So this is an invitation to invest a little time in your own family while also helping support another.

I wrote this book because I believe children should never have to leave parts of themselves behind in order to belong.
Bonjour, hi! Y el hola, ¿dónde está? is a story about language, identity, belonging, and what can happen when a child is given permission to bring all of who they are into the classroom.
It was inspired by my children’s journey from Mexico to Canada, shaped by nearly 20 years of working with children and educators, and completed with what I have witnessed, learned, and come to believe along the way.
Today, I want to make a simple invitation.
If you are a parent, educator, school, library, or someone who believes that children’s languages and cultures are resources, not barriers, I would love for this book to find its way to you.
Read it with a child.
Share it in your classroom.
Put it in your school or community library.
Start a conversation about what it means to belong.
And perhaps ask a child:
“What parts of you do you bring with you wherever you go?”
📚 Bonjour, hi! Y el hola, ¿dónde está? is available now on Amazon.

15 years ago, I was already a Montessori educator.
Looking at this photo makes me smile, not only because of how much has changed, but because of how much I didn't know yet.
Back then, I thought being a good educator meant knowing my materials well, preparing beautiful environments, and knowing how to guide children through their work.
I still value all of that.
But years of working with children, families, and educators have taught me something deeper:
Being a Montessori educator is less about having all the answers and more about remaining willing to observe, question, learn, and grow.
The children have been some of my greatest teachers.
So have the families.
So have the educators I've had the privilege of learning alongside.
And I realize now that becoming a better educator isn't a destination.
It is a practice.
Almost 15 years later, I'm still learning.
Still observing.
Still questioning.
Still being transformed by the work.
And I'm incredibly grateful for that.
The educator I was then is part of the educator I am today.

I almost walked right past this. 🦋
A monarch butterfly resting quietly on the sand.
For a moment, everything else seemed to disappear.
Just a butterfly.
The ocean.
The sand.
And that feeling of wow.
We talk so much about what children need to learn.
But I sometimes wonder if we don’t talk enough about what they need to experience.
Awe.
Wonder.
Curiosity.
The feeling of being small in a world that is so much bigger than ourselves.
And as I looked at this monarch, I couldn’t help but think about migration.
Monarchs travel extraordinary distances, crossing borders and landscapes as part of a journey that is bigger than any one place.
It made me think about our own journeys.
The places we leave.
The places we discover.
The things we carry with us.
And the ways we learn to belong somewhere new.
Perhaps this is one of the gifts of reconnecting with nature: it reminds us that we are part of something much bigger than our busy schedules, our classrooms, and our plans.
As educators, creating opportunities for children to experience awe and wonder may be just as important as giving them information about the world.
Sometimes we don’t need to explain the butterfly.
Sometimes we just need to stop…
and let a child notice it. 🦋🌱

Something one of the participants in Ready to Welcome reminded us of this week has stayed with me.
As we were reflecting on the role of the Montessori adult, he brought up one of Maria Montessori's powerful ideas: the child is their own teacher.
Montessori wrote:
“The child has a mind able to absorb knowledge. He has the power to teach himself.”
It made me think about how much of what we truly know is learned through our own experience.
Think about our first language.
No one sat beside us teaching every word, correcting every sentence, or explaining grammar.
We absorbed it through listening, relationships, repetition, movement, experimentation, and meaningful experiences.
Or learning to ride a bike.
Someone may have encouraged us, supported us, or created the conditions for us to practice.
But we had to discover balance.
And once we did, it became ours.
This is one of the things I find so powerful about Montessori: the adult's role is not to disappear, but to become more intentional.
We prepare.
We observe.
We connect.
We offer.
We wait.
And we trust the child's capacity to construct themselves.
This idea has stayed deeply connected to my own work with language, and, in many ways, it found its way into my book, Bonjour, hi! Y el hola, ¿dónde está?
Perhaps sometimes the most powerful thing we can give a child is not another lesson…
but the opportunity to discover:
“I can do this.”

I wish someone had told me these three things before my first year in a Montessori classroom…
🌱 1. The shelves don’t build the culture—you do.
Beautiful materials matter, but children experience the classroom through the adults who welcome, guide, and connect with them every day.
🌱 2. Observation is more powerful than quick solutions.
The first weeks are filled with opportunities to learn who each child is before deciding what they need.
🌱 3. The first days shape the rest of the year.
The way we establish routines, model Grace & Courtesy, build relationships, and respond to challenges lays the foundation for a calm, connected, and normalized classroom.
These are lessons I’ve learned over nearly 20 years as a Montessori educator, school leader, and trainer—and they are the foundation of Ready to Welcome.
If you’re preparing for a new school year and want to feel more grounded, confident, and intentional in those first weeks, I’d love to support you.

What if being ready for school doesn't mean being perfect? 🌱
Many parents worry about whether their child can:
✔ sit still
✔ follow instructions
✔ complete tasks independently
✔ know all the "right" things before the first day
But school readiness is not about creating a child who never struggles.
It is about nurturing a child who trusts themselves when challenges appear.
A child who knows:
✨ "I can try."
✨ "I can ask for help."
✨ "I can solve problems."
✨ "I belong here."
This is one of the most beautiful gifts we can offer children—not removing every challenge, but helping them develop the confidence to navigate them.
As parents, our role is not to make the path perfect.
It is to prepare children with the tools, independence, and emotional security to walk that path.
That is the heart behind A Confident Start!
A Montessori-inspired parent workshop designed to support families as they prepare for a new school year with intention and connection.

What is one quality you hope your child carries with them into their next school year?
08/05/2026
What if the greatest barrier to learning isn't language... but the belief that children have to leave part of themselves behind?
As educators, we often focus on what children still need to learn.
A new language.
New routines.
A new curriculum.
A new culture.
But what if we first recognized everything they already bring with them?
Every child enters the classroom carrying experiences, relationships, traditions, ways of thinking, and one or more languages. None of these are obstacles to learning. They are resources for learning.
When children are invited to use all of who they are, something beautiful happens.
They become more confident.
They participate more freely.
They begin to see that their identity is not something to hide; it is something that enriches the entire community.
This is the heart of translanguaging.
Not simply using more than one language, but recognizing that every child deserves to learn through the full richness of who they already are.
This belief has shaped my work for years as a Montessori educator, school leader, and consultant. It also became the heart of the children's book I recently published.
As we prepare our classrooms for a new school year, perhaps one of the most important questions we can ask is:
What am I doing to help every child feel that all of who they are belongs here?
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
