Cochlear Implant Day was Feb 25th. So grateful for this technology, allowing me to partake in normal activities with others. Are there challenges? Oh yes. Are there limits? For sure (swimming for one). But being able to hear in most situations far outweighs those challenges. . This the video of me getting 'hooked up'. A month after my implant surgery was then fitted for the actual CI. That process was just that, a process. You can see that training your new "ears" to hear and for your brain to register what you are hearing takes time. Luise Hagen

Especially important in these covid times. I am hearing impaired. I can't hear unless I have the visual support of the speaker. Masks take away about 75% of my hearing. So, when I say "huh?" "Sorry, say it again", I am looking for visual support. Use your fingers at the very least to tell me the number you might be using. I'll get into alphabet later. But let's start with numbers... This would be incredibly useful during my workouts when calling out the percentage of the climb. Here's 1-10, i'll do another video of 11-20..

I started with mild hearing loss in my late teens, and it progressed to severe hearing loss by the time I was 40. My hearing loss is unique, and passed down from a great grandmother who was deaf. My son is experiencing some hearing loss, (he even notices it), so after reading this article, I'm going to have him checked more regularly, and insist there by an FM system in the classroom so he doesn't miss on things in the classroom. Please, have your children's hearing checked, and even your own if you suspect there is an issue, because neglect hearing loss has many negative consequences. It's not a matter of aesthetics, and the stigma has got to be overridden. It is a matter of taking care of your most basic right, your ability to communicate and hear.
A Mild Hearing Loss is Not a Mild Problem
Children with mild hearing loss can have significant delays in language and academic development. Mild hearing loss needs to be carefully monitored and treated.
