Beginning Sundays in September at Ireland House Museum, find out if you could be a Victorian! Each month, How to Be a Victorian takes on a different part of everyday life in the 19th century, from getting dressed and going to school, to surviving winter, and celebrating Christmas. Explore historic objects, try your hand at Victorian skills, and tackle the everyday challenges of life before modern conveniences. History isn’t just something to look at, it’s something to try.

Each month features a different theme, all activities are included in the price of admission (FREE for family membership holders). Activities are designed for ages 5-12. Bring the whole family! Music from the Rooftop THIS FRIDAY will feature local musician Mo Guzman! Tickets include a 1-hour performance and admission to the galleries. TONIGHT! Meet popular food blogger Amina Al-Saigh (Hungry Paprikas) author of Souk to Table featuring her easy, quick, and accessible Middle Eastern recipes, inspired by her heritage and using flavours she knows and loves.

Amina Al-Saigh is the founder and recipe developer behind Hungry Paprikas, one of the most trusted sources for Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking online, reaching over 3.5 million readers a year. She’s the author of the Amazon bestselling and Taste Canada Award winning cookbook Souk to Table, and her recipes and food photography have been featured with the Food Network, CBC Life, and many other notable publications.

Before turning her kitchen into her office, Amina spent over a decade as an engineer managing multi-million dollar power projects. These days she applies that same precision to recipe development: exact measurements, tested and retested, no “add salt to taste” in sight. Many of her recipes come straight from her mother’s kitchen, reimagined for busy weeknights without losing what makes them special.

The Heritage Fibre Festival at Ireland House Museum on September 26 will feature live demonstrations in the historic house and a market offering a variety of fibre art-related products. There will also be a children’s activity station, where kids can make their own spool knitting and weaving creations. Admission is pay-what-you-may.
