With 5 new builds under contract, you'd think we wouldn't have time for refit and maintenance. Not so! The last couple of months have seen a stream of diverse Norman Wright builds in for annual maintenance and refit works - from our 2025 carbonfibre Autonomous Drone "Reefcat " to our timber classics Bali Hai and South Pacific II.

NRW's reputation for efficient designs with excellent seakeeping comes not just from decades of experience, but also through continually investing in the latest design technologies. In recent weeks, our Naval Architects have been burning the midnight oil using cutting edge CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software to analyse the seakeeping performance of new designs for both ourselves and production boat builders. We were analysing the same things back in the the 1960's for development of the 75ft class pilot boats - except cutting edge looked a little different (and more fun!) back then.

Last week we launched "Taubar II" another of our 14.2m XLW Class Pilot Vessels for PNGPCL. With 3 new builds launching in the last few months, we've almost emptied the shed!

We’re excited to announce we have signed a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia to supply a number of our award winning 12m XLW Class Patrol Vessels. This agreement strengthens our relationship with the Commonwealth and their goals of maritime protection of Australian interests, and further establishes our 12m XLW Class as a premium product of choice across a number of state and federal agencies.

Lightning strikes twice! At last year's Australian Marine Industry Awards, we were honoured to receive the award for the Commercial Project, Design or Manufacturer of the Year for our 12m XLW Class Patrol Vessel. On Tuesday night this week we were totally floored to take the win again!! this time for our extensive refit of the iconic South Pacific II, a vessel we launched in 1962.

The two projects could not be more different - one an advanced composites high speed modern patrol boat, the later a long range traditional timber motor yacht with refined interiors. They bookend the range and depth of experience at Wrights and we greatly appreciate that recognition.

We accept this award on behalf our team and long term subcontractors and suppliers who worked on SPII project, but mostly on behalf of the owner and skipper who put their trust in us.
