"And the reason I told you this story is because..." (link the reason to your content or main message).

For the love of learning, please don't just talk at your audiences.

Do your participant's feel that your content is relevant for them so it can help them in some way? You may need to ask questions or make statements that will help them realise the relevance of the content. Then it will click, helping them to lean in with a new enthusiasm.

Do you say "sorry" for things all the time? Maybe you shouldn't.

What do people think when they first see and/or hear you?

How's your ENERGY level? Your energy as a facilitator sets the ceiling for participant engagement. Show up flat, and the session will likely feel flat. Stride into the session with an upbeat vibe, a sharp mind and genuine enthusiasm...and your participants will feed off this with an elevated energy throughout the session.

But finding your personal energy is not always easy. Little things can have a negative impact. Over the years, the main things that have affected my energy levels have been:

❌worrying about the session (because of the content or the fear of the unknown participants and how they will receive me);

❌overthinking how things 'might' go pear-shaped, including the room setting; and

❌poor sleep, dehydration, failure to eat brekky before a session, and not having enough snacks through the day because I am too busy organising what is next during the 'breaks'. 😁

Don't worry!😍THE GREAT NEWS IS that all of these things can be managed through:

✅* rehearsal of content (literally saying it out loud even to imaginary participants);

✅*sending out a pre-session info form to learn about your participants and their experience/history etc in the topic you will cover;

✅*having a clear idea of the room layout ahead of time (by asking for photos from the host venue), and knowing my plan for setting up tables or chairs to suit the session when I arrive;

✅*telling yourself a positive story that everything will be OK;

✅*getting to bed early the night before (for a minimum of 7hrs sleep);

✅*staying hydrated by frequently sipping a warm drink, water or coconut water (or whatever you prefer) which also helps the throat when there is lots of speaking to do;

✅*eating snacks throughout the day to ensure your blood glucose level (BGL) stays stable enough for optimal cognitive performance.

Plan ahead and take good care of yourself so your facilitation energy levels are optimal. 💥

HOW DO YOU ENSURE YOUR ENERGY LEVELS ARE OPTIMAL?
