πŸ–ŒοΈ Sumi-e with the next generation! πŸ–ŒοΈWe were honoured that Yumiko Sensei was invited to teach Japanese ink painting (sumi-e) to children at the 12th Positive Mindset Creative Arts Festival 2026, held at Sunnybank Hills State School on Wednesday 7 October as part of Queensland Mental Health Week.

With just ink, brush and paper, the children discovered the quiet joy of sumi-e: every stroke is unique, there are no mistakes, and creating is a wonderful way to feel calm, connected and confident. 🌿

The festival's theme, Create. Connect. Chat. Build Community. Build Wellbeing., is something we believe in deeply at Kinyu Ink Studio. Thank you to the organisers at the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health (QAMH) and Sunnybank Hills State School for the invitation, and to all the wonderful young artists who painted with us! πŸ’™

🌺 Meet Rie, bringing camellias to life with ink and brush! 🌺Rie has chosen the camellia as her subject, a flower prized in Japanese art for its bold, rounded petals and quiet dignity. Capturing its soft form and deep colour takes a confident brush and a careful eye. Her work is being exhibited as part of our group artwork.

πŸ–‹οΈ Meet Katie, bringing her calligraphy to life! πŸ–‹οΈKatie has written ζ₯½εœ’, "rakuen", meaning paradise. A phrase like this calls for bold, confident brushwork, each stroke carrying the weight and balance of the whole character. Her work is being exhibited as part of our group artwork.

πŸͺ· Meet Kana, putting the finishing touches on her lotus! πŸͺ·Kana has chosen the lotus as her subject, a symbol of purity and quiet strength rising above the water. Capturing those soft, layered petals takes patience and a gentle hand, letting the ink bloom naturally on the paper. Her work is being exhibited as part of our group artwork.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Meet GaΓ«tan, bringing swallows to life with ink and brush! πŸ•ŠοΈGaΓ«tan has chosen swallows as his subject, quick, graceful birds that capture motion in just a few confident strokes. Catching that sense of flight takes a steady hand and a light touch, each stroke has to flow without hesitation. His work will be on display alongside our group artwork at the exhibition.
