At Goodstart McDowall we are strongly committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children at our service. This includes their physical, emotional, and digital safety.

Goodstart McDowall is currently reflecting on ways to minimize children’s digital footprint within our service, and we have created a center-specific action plan to support this commitment. During the month of June, we will begin to show updates about all children’s learning in different ways, rather than through photographs and video’s. To capture all documentation of the child’s learning this will be done through programs and floor books, and having conversation with the children and Educators about what learning is happening in their room.

I put a challenge out to our community and families, can you share a photo of something you have done with your family without any people in the post, you can be creative on your post but I am looking forward to seeing what we see.

If you would like to visit our centre and meat our wonderful team, please phone us on 07 3353 6233 or email us on [email protected]

Reconciliation in early childhood is not a one-week event; it is a daily practice. Embedding reconciliation means weaving respect, truth-telling, and cultural awareness into our routines, environments, and relationships. As educators, it is about creating spaces where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are visible, valued, and celebrated.

At Goodstart MacDonald, this week we celebrated Reconciliation Week with all of our children — from our smallest people to our biggest people. Throughout the week, there were many discussions and opportunities to explore what reconciliation means to our community and how we can reflect this within our service.

Children engaged in a variety of meaningful experiences that encouraged learning, curiosity, and connection. These included beading activities, listening to stories, learning about native animals, and exploring the colours of reconciliation. Through these experiences, children were able to develop an understanding of culture, respect, and belonging in ways that were engaging and age-appropriate.

Our Kindy children have also begun a journey of discovery by starting a pen pal connection with another Goodstart centre. They have been sharing their ideas and understandings of what reconciliation means to them, with the hope of learning about the other centre’s experiences and perspectives on reconciliation in return. This experience has encouraged children to reflect, communicate, and build connections with others through shared learning and understanding.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and we are proud to continue creating opportunities for children and families to learn, reflect, and celebrate together.

There are plenty of proven benefits of outdoor play for children. Did you know, however, that there are also lots of benefits to allowing children to continue playing outdoors, even if it begins to rain?

As long as children are wearing appropriate clothing that keeps them warm and dry, they can fully reap the benefits of playing and exploring outdoors in the rain.

Grab your wellies, raincoats and umbrellas and get ready for play.

At Goodstart McDowall Play, we believe outdoor learning should never stop, in any weather. That’s why we’ve highlighted six exciting benefits for playing in the rain...

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “All In,” reminds us that reconciliation is a shared journey and that every person has a role to play in building respectful relationships and stronger communities.

In line with our Centre’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we are inviting all families and the wider community to take part in our Sea of Hearts community project. Together, we hope to create a meaningful display that reflects connection, respect, understanding, and our collective commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We invite you to recreate and decorate your heart at home with your child, sharing your thoughts and ideas around the question: “What does reconciliation mean to you?” Families may also choose to include drawings, symbols, colours, or messages that represent hope, kindness, culture, belonging, and unity.

Each completed heart will become part of our growing “Sea of Hearts,” symbolizing that our community is proudly All In — learning together, walking together, and working towards a more inclusive future.

If you would like to join our community please call us on 07 3353 6233 or email [email protected] or come in and see us and have a chat with our wonderful team 😊
