Today we wore our pyjamas to support Pyjama Day and help raise awareness for the wonderful work of the Pyjama Foundation. 💙🧸📚

We were also lucky to welcome two representatives from the The Pyjama Foundation, Nikki and Lizzie, who joined us to read some wonderful stories with the children. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading while learning about the important work the Foundation does to support children in foster care.

Thank you to all of our families for supporting this special day. Every pair of pyjamas worn helps make a difference! 💙✨

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

Last week at our centre, we proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week by engaging in meaningful learning experiences that honoured the rich cultures, histories, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our children explored Indigenous art, storytelling, music, symbols, nature and the importance of caring for Country through hands on activities, conversations and play. These experiences encouraged curiosity, respect and an appreciation for the world's oldest continuous living cultures.

Thank you to our educators for creating thoughtful learning experiences and to our families for supporting our journey of learning together.

Thank you so much Kate from Upside Down Therapy for the incredible training 🌟

At Goodstart Nundah we are committed to creating inclusive spaces where every child feels safe, supported and empowered to thrive. Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow together as a team as we continue strengthening our practices to support all children💛

This week our Director Kate, had the pleasure of presenting our Sensory Steps Kindy Uplift program to the wonderful educators at Goodstart Early Learning Nundah as part of the Kindy Uplift initiative.

The session focused on supporting educators to better understand sensory processing, regulation, and the important role the environment and relationships play in helping children feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.

We loved the opportunity to collaborate with such engaged and passionate educators who are committed to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for all children.

Thank you to the team at Goodstart Early Learning Nundah for welcoming us so warmly — we are excited to continue working together to support children’s participation, wellbeing, and development. 💛

We’re often asked what being not-for-profit really means for our families.

Simply put, it means that our purpose always comes before profit. Every dollar we make is reinvested back into our centres, to provide children with enriching and safe learning environments.

We understand how important it is for children to be in a place where they feel safe and settled. And when families need to make a change - planned or unexpected - we’re here to help make that transition easier.

We’re here to support families when it matters most – because every child deserves a Goodstart! ✨
