Brisbane Montessori School is a vibrant, child-centred, authentic Montessori school in Brisbane, Australia educating students from birth to 18 years.

We are fortunate to offer our children an education in a unique location along the banks of the Brisbane River. Approximately 12km from the city, our school nests in a beautiful nature reserve where our children enjoy an abundance of fresh air, shady trees and open space. The Brisbane Montessori School was incorporated as a company in 1981 following the vision of a group of five dedicated parents

Science came alive today at Brisbane Montessori School… are you ready to get curious?

This year's National Science Week theme, ‘Seeds of Science - Nurturing Knowledge for All,’ invites us to explore how curiosity, inquiry and shared learning help scientific understanding take root and grow, much like a seed given the right conditions to flourish. The theme resonates deeply with our Montessori philosophy. Just as we nurture each child's natural curiosity and allow their understanding to develop through hands-on, self-directed exploration, National Science Week celebrates learning as an organic process: one that grows from a spark of wonder into deep, lasting knowledge.

We celebrated the joy of science at our very own BMS Science Fair, where students got curious, experimented and had plenty of fun along the way.

National Science Week aims to spark genuine excitement about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, encouraging young people to see themselves as capable scientific thinkers who can ask questions, investigate the world around them and contribute meaningfully to tomorrow's discoveries.

Our Year 7-10 students transformed the Poseidon Lab, Deck and Gardens into a science playground, welcoming Lower and Upper Primary students to explore a series of hands-on experiments and investigations throughout the day. In true Montessori spirit, the fair celebrated learning through doing: following questions, discovering connections and making sense of scientific concepts in the world around us.

What a wonderful day to see the seeds of scientific thinking, nurtured every day in our classrooms, take root, grow and flourish.

From our Lower Primary students returning to the familiar comfort of YMCA camp, to our Upper Primary students taking on brand-new adventures, camp season was full of growth, courage and connection this year!

Camp is so much more than time away from the classroom. It's where our students practice independence, adaptability, build resilience, solve problems on the fly, and strengthen bonds with their classroom community.

Curious to find out why camp is such a meaningful part of the Montessori journey at BMS?

Our Montessori 0-3 Parent and Child Programs invites you to attend with your child in a calm and carefully prepared environment.

Dr Maria Montessori believed education begins at birth, and the years from birth to three are when a child's mind absorbs more of the world than at any other point in life.

Guided by this understanding, our purpose-built 0-3 environment is designed to meet your child at their current developmental stage, giving them the freedom to touch, move, and explore with all their senses.

Term 3 bookings are available - please visit www.bms.qld.edu.au/learning-curriculum/0-3-parent-child-programs to book your spot!

We're proud to share that Rebecca Bridge, Director of our Montessori Independent Toddler Community (MITC), will be speaking at the National First Nations Education Conference!

Her session, The Montessori Approach to Building Culturally Safe Practices for Children Under 3, explores how Montessori principles and culturally safe practice can shape the earliest years of a child's learning.

Held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday 14 August 2026, this event brings together First Nations educators, Elders and leaders from across the country as they continue building bridges between traditional knowledge and contemporary education, ensuring that the voices and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are at the centre of every aspect of learning.

Rebecca is a proud Murrawarri woman and a passionate advocate for the rights of children, and we hope you can join in and be part of the conversation.

Last night, our parent community came together to Journey Through the Curriculum. In this special workshop, they stepped inside the Montessori Mathematics experience. They witnessed the continuity of learning that unfolds across the years, from our Montessori Independent Toddler Community right through to Adolescence, a curriculum designed to grow with the child, every step of the way.

Each visit offers new insight into just how far this continuity carries the child's mathematical understanding over the years, and we thank everyone who came to share in this special experience.

We invite you to join us in celebrating what was a wonderful evening filled with curiosity, discovery, and a shared love of learning.

We were thrilled to attend the Montessori Australia National Conference in Brisbane last week, and even prouder to have two of our own take the stage as guest speakers.

🎤 Ruchika Narula, Head of Secondary School, presented 'From Teacher to Guide' exploring the shift in role and mindset at the heart of Montessori practice.

🎤 Naomi Whitehead, Head of Primary School, presented 'Unpacking the National Curriculum: Backward Mapping from Montessori Lessons to Learning' bridging Montessori pedagogy with national curriculum requirements.

In an ever-changing educational landscape, it was a privilege to reflect on our shared purpose alongside educators and industry experts from across Australia; a true coming together of minds to deepen and expand our understanding.

Thank you, Montessori Australia, for bringing together such a remarkable group of minds💜

Our campus is buzzing with energy as students rotate through a variety of activity stations, including throwing, track and jumping events, tug-of-war, Indigenous and cooperative games, ball games, balance challenges, yoga and meditation.

In Montessori education, movement is much more than physical activity—it is an essential part of learning. As children challenge themselves, collaborate with others and discover what their bodies can do, they develop coordination, concentration, confidence, resilience and respect for themselves and their community.

Today is about more than winning the games. It's about embracing challenges, celebrating personal growth, encouraging one another, and experiencing the joy of movement together.

Wishing all our students a wonderful Sports Day filled with laughter, perseverance and plenty of memorable moments! 💚
