Brisbane Montessori School is a vibrant, child-centred, authentic Montessori school in Brisbane, Australia educating students from birth to 18 years.

We are fortunate to offer our children an education in a unique location along the banks of the Brisbane River. Approximately 12km from the city, our school nests in a beautiful nature reserve where our children enjoy an abundance of fresh air, shady trees and open space. The Brisbane Montessori School was incorporated as a company in 1981 following the vision of a group of five dedicated parents

In our Montessori Independent Toddler Community (MITC), the Practical Life curriculum helps toddlers build the skills they need to care for themselves and their environment. Everything is thoughtfully designed for their size and stage of development, encouraging the mindset, "I can do it by myself." As children experience success, they gain confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility.

These simple, purposeful activities invite repetition, helping children develop focus, coordination, and an understanding of order and sequence while engaging their senses and encouraging purposeful movement.

Join us for a warm and welcoming 'Stay and Play' experience in our authentic Montessori environment, thoughtfully prepared for children aged 12 months to 3 years.

This special experience allows families to see firsthand how Montessori nurtures independence, confidence, and a love of learning from the earliest years. Our Early Years program lays the foundation for a seamless Montessori educational pathway, supporting each child's development from birth through to age 18.

As part of Reconciliation Week, Children’s House has once again taken part in a Reconciliation Walking on Country, continuing a special tradition from last year.

Through the eyes of a young child, the walk is a chance to come together, listen, learn, and show respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we walk side by side, we celebrate the rich cultures, stories, histories, and enduring connection to Country that have been shared for tens of thousands of years.

Reconciliation Week helps children begin to understand that everyone has a story and that learning about our shared history can help us build kindness, respect, and stronger relationships with one another. It is a time to ask questions and explore how even small actions can help create a more inclusive and connected community.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, ‘All In,’ reminds us that reconciliation is something we can all be part of every day. For our children, being “All In” might look like listening carefully to stories, showing respect for different cultures, caring for Country, and walking together as friends.

Through these experiences, they learn that every step, no matter how small, can help build a brighter future for everyone.

Toddlers are beginning to discover their individuality, often proudly insisting, 'I can do it myself.' We embrace this important stage by creating opportunities for children to act independently within safe, supportive boundaries. Whether pouring a drink, putting on shoes, or helping care for their environment, each small success brings a sense of pride and joy. These everyday moments help build lasting confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self.

We were lucky enough to get Hazel a place in Montessori Independent Toddler Community (MITC) from 17 months old transferring from another centre. Straight away we felt that MITC was a calm and supportive environment, and that Bec and the other staff were attuned to each individual child's own needs.

The updates we receive about Hazel's work felt as though Bec truly knew our child after only a few weeks into the program. Communication from MITC, not just for us as parents, but for the children as well, has been outstanding and has really felt as though together all staff really put the children first.

Through their support, both day-to-day in the classroom and through parent information sessions, we had success toileting before 2 years old, and have seen Hazel's independence and confidence grow in many other practical life skills.

She is always offering to sweep up at home and loves doing the dishes. The MITC environment is so thoughtfully prepared that we feel like Hazel is engaged, challenged and is given so many more opportunities for exploration than we could hope to offer at home.

Moreover, Bec has an ability to turn what we might sometimes consider mundane tasks into magical moments such as when she posted Hazel a letter reinvigorating the excitement of checking the letterbox each day. We couldn't be happier with MITC, and we know as Hazel runs into class each day with barely a glance back towards mum or dad, she would agree.

The Primary Working With Your Child event is a special opportunity for families to step into the classroom and experience a small part of your child’s learning journey alongside them.

During the event, children independently choose the work they wish to demonstrate, which may include familiar materials or activities they feel confident presenting, sometimes in collaboration with classmates. Families are encouraged to respect these choices, observe their child at work, receive a lesson from them, work collaboratively, ask questions, or share a story together.

These events are among the most valuable ways for parents to gain insight into what their child has been doing at school, not just academically but also socially, emotionally, and personally.

Children delight in presenting a mathematical challenge, inviting a parent to write an imaginative story, or demonstrating materials they use each day. It is a joyful experience that nurtures confidence, independence, and pride in their learning.

Our Year 10 students visited the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute earlier this week.

During their visit, students participated in hands-on practical experiments focused on DNA, genetics, and heredity, directly supporting their Term 2 Biology studies. This experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage in real-world laboratory practices, deepening their understanding through authentic scientific inquiry.

As Montessori learners, our students highly value the meaningful, experiential learning opportunities offered throughout the excursion, and many demonstrated a strong interest in future pathways in science, making the experience both relevant and inspiring.

These experiences also strongly aligned with the Montessori pedagogical approach, which emphasises student agency, independence, and purposeful work. By engaging in real scientific environments, students were empowered to take ownership of their learning, ask questions, and make connections beyond the classroom.

Opportunities like this fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and self-direction, enabling adolescents to see themselves as capable contributors to the scientific community and active participants in their own educational journey.

Our Montessori Independent Toddler Community (MITC) provides a calm, safe, and predictable environment where children feel secure and confident in their surroundings. Knowing what to expect each day helps toddlers feel at ease, giving them the freedom to explore, make choices, and engage independently with the world around them.

This strong sense of trust and security forms the foundation for healthy emotional development. As children experience respect, patience, and gentle guidance from the adults around them, they naturally begin to show the same respect and care toward others, their environment, and the materials they use each day.

On Sorry Day, we pause to reflect and listen.

National Sorry Day acknowledges and raises awareness of the history and continued effect of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from their families, communities and culture.

Members of our BMS community joined the Benarrawa CDA and Solidarity Group this morning to remember and acknowledge the past, while working together towards reconciliation and a stronger collective future.

We recognise the strength of Stolen Generations survivors, and we commit to walking forward with truth, respect, and empathy.
