Cardboard, the conduit for creativity! This afternoon, the boys were given a whole bunch of cardboard with one simple yet powerful instruction: Build whatever you want! The possibilities were endless, and the excitement was palpable as they dove headfirst into their projects. In the space that followed, we saw boys sharing resources, collaborating, and learning from each other as they brought their unique visions to life. We saw towers connected by a bridge, castles, and even a side-show alley style throwing game that tested their skills and sparked their competitive spirits! The room was filled with laughter, imagination, and a sense of freedom that only comes from being given the autonomy to create. As we looked around, we saw boys who were fully engaged, fully invested, and fully themselves - a true testament to the power of creativity and imagination. 💡🎨📦

"Play is a process that is freely chosen, perso ally directed, and intrinsically motivated."

The programmed activity for outside this afternoon was Skateboard Club, however, during afternoon tea a group of boys indicated that they really wanted to go to the oval for soccer. At first I asked myself, "why on earth would these guys want to pass up skateboarding?" At group time I asked the boys for their opinions and put it to a vote with the overwhelming majority voting for the oval over skateboarding at the tennis courts. So what do we do... we pivot. Pivot to allow for the children's choice and agency to be reflected in their play rather than remaining strict to a program.
