Happy Clean Up Australia Day! Today I was supporting the staff and students of Mt St Michael's College and Marist College by providing reusable plates and cups for their pre-clean up breakfast, and supervising a group of students to clean up the local creek. The kids did a fantastic job collecting a total of 9 bags of rubbish, 2 bags of recyclables, 3 chairs, 2 trolleys and a tyre!

Party favours are often a really difficult area to avoid plastic. While I don't sell any plastic free party favours myself, I'm always happy to brainstorm ideas with you and help you find an alternative! This is an example of what I did last weekend for my own kids. My son's party was race car themed so I made some cardboard race trophies and filled them with a matchbox car thrifted from and some car shaped crayons that I ordered from . My daughter's party was butterfly themed so I ordered butterfly attracting seed bombs from .

Last weekend was my own little people's birthday party! This was the first year we had invited people who had not been to our home before, so we switched the traditional party symbol of 'balloons on the letter box' for rainbow flags on the hedge!

When I mention that cleaning is included in the hire fee, many people comment that I must really love doing dishes! The truth is, dishes are one of my least favourite jobs, but I'll gladly run a few loads through my dishwasher if it means someone will chose reusable items over disposable plastic!

I hope everyone had a fun-filled Halloween last night! We kept it low waste by handing out fun-sized packs of smarties in cardboard packaging, and by using reusable decorations such as bunting and paper lanterns. We also passed on the imported pumpkins and went for a locally grown pineapple for our jack-o-lantern!

I love first birthdays, and this weekend I had the pleasure of assisting with two of these special milestones! Between these two families, more than 260 pieces of disposable plastic have been kept out of landfill.
