Rumours of Immunity for UAP Program Participants

Rep. Tim Burchett’s Opening Remarks | July 26, 2023 UAP Hearing

During the House Oversight Subcommittee hearing titled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Implications on National Security, Public Safety, and Government Transparency,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) delivered the following opening statement:
“Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you all for being here. I want to thank everybody for making this happen today, and I want to remind everybody this is a nonpartisan issue. This has nothing to do with party politics. I think the coverup goes a lot deeper than that.

…I also would like to thank the Members of Congress who have supported our efforts to make this hearing happen. Some have even confided in me that they’ve had UFO sightings of their own. Those Members, of course, some of them wish to remain anonymous and I’ll keep it that way.

Opening Statement from 2022 Congressional UAP Hearing�Chairman Rep. André Carson (D-IN), May 17, 2022

“More than 50 years ago, the US government ended Project Blue Book, an effort to catalog and understand sightings of objects in the air that could not otherwise be explained.�For more than 20 years, that project treated unidentified anomalies in our airspace as a national security threat to be monitored and investigated.”

This marked the first open congressional hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) in over half a century. Chairman Carson stressed the need to treat UAP as a legitimate national security issue, reduce longstanding stigma around reporting, and improve intelligence analysis. He noted the Pentagon’s quiet restart of UAP investigation efforts post-2017 and Congress’s role in bringing greater oversight.

Michael Fassbender, during the press conference for the sci-fi film Hope at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, commented on recent UAP developments

“Hopefully we can learn from them (UFOs) and hopefully they’re not aggressive.”

In the film, directed by Na Hong-jin, Fassbender and Alicia Vikander portray extraterrestrial entities from an invading royal family.

In February 2026, President Trump directed federal agencies to identify and declassify government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, UAP, and UFOs. The first tranche of declassified documents was released on May 8, 2026, via the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE), with additional batches promised on a rolling basis.
