✅ You can gain a lot from the relationships that you create, so if you want to improve and grow, ensure that you are connecting with the right people.

⛔️ For example, if you have a friend who is constantly complaining and lazy, it is likely that you will adopt some of these negative attributes. ⠀

🦸♂️ Instead think about what type of person you want to be, what you want to achieve and connect with people who are already living your desired state.⠀

👇 Practical actions: ⠀
- Make a list of what attributes you want to obtain and find people who do it well. Spend time with them and immerse yourself in their world.⠀
- Consume YouTube videos, podcasts and blogs of the people who inspire you and already obtain the skills that you desire. ⠀

💻 Do you want to be more organised when you are working in your software programs?

🕰️ The time that you spend looking for tools and needing to click through multiple tabs and windows adds up. ⠀

For example, in Adobe Illustrator there is a generic workflow set up for you. Does this generic workflow reflect the tools that you use most? ⠀

By setting up your workflow with your most loved and used tools, you will not need to find them in tabs and windows. ⠀

📅 Set some time aside in your calendar to do this for your most used programs. Your future-self will love you for it!⠀

This post was inspired by an Adobe MAX session called 'Illustrator Workflows Part 1: Approaches and Keys for Success - L6140a'. ⠀

🤓 How do you customise your workflows? ⠀

🏃♀️➡️ Imagine you are running a relay race. You are on your last lap and you can see your team mate in the distance, ready to grab the baton from you and finish the race. You are running as fast as you can, you are focusing on your breathing and you are ensuring you are heading directly for your team mate, your full concentration and energy is on the task at hand.

🤩 This is an example of when you are completely engaged in a task.

🧘♀️ Whether it was from a running race or reading a book it is likely that you have experienced this state. It is known in positive psychology, as ‘flow’, a state of complete immersion in an activity (Cherry, 2017).

💭 Imagine being able to replicate this state and apply it to your learner’s mind-set when they are experiencing your learning solution. It would be great if we could inject this state into our learners just prior to them completing a learning task.

👇 How do you create this in your eLearning?

🤗 If you ask change agents, what is the leading cause of change fails, the same word pops up. That word is ‘people’ (Dietze, 2017). Whether it was because ‘people’ were reluctant, ‘people’ didn’t understand the change or ‘people’ didn’t see the point of changing (Dietze, 2017), ‘people’ truly do make or break a change process.

😍 The best way to gain buy in from the ‘people’, in our case the ‘learner’, is to involve them in the design process.

🤔 Has an eLearning course ever had you reflecting on experiences from your life?

👍 Upon completion did you understand the benefit of learning the new content?

❓ Could you say that you knew the ‘why’ behind the learning experience?

When you are designing an eLearning course you would assume that the content is relevant, necessary for your learner and overall should be of some benefit to them. So, if this is the case, how can you show your learner the reason why and allow them to reflect on how it can benefit them in their life?

📚 Think about how many things you learn at once. If you are someone who wants to improve and reach your potential as an instructional designer, you may have a few learning goals on the go. ⠀

For example, you could be learning: ⠀

💜 Human-centred design⠀
💬 Facilitation⠀
💻 How to develop in Storyline⠀
❓ How to ask stakeholders the right questions⠀
📈 How to manage a project.⠀

According to the law of diminishing returns, this may stop you from achieving the results you desire. Learning more things may not result in the improvements you desire in yourself. Especially if other factors in your life are stagnant, like: ⠀

⌛ Your time⠀
🧠 Your ability to learn new things⠀
😎 Your confidence⠀
💭 Allowing time to practice, reflect and improve. ⠀

Without adjusting other factors, it may be more effective to focus on one learning goal at a time. Once you are comfortable that you have met that learning goal and created a new habit, you can move onto the next thing.⠀
