When Dr. Seuss was asked how he could connect with children in spite of not having his own, his stock answer was, “You have ‘em, and I’ll entertain ‘em.”

NAPLAN Stress Reduction

With less than 3 weeks remaining until NAPLAN testing begins we thought we would share some ideas we have been using with our students to reduce stress and allow more study time rather than worry time.

1) Communicate – It is obvious but often not done enough. Speaking to your children and offering the approach of “try your best” we find works best to alleviate stress. Also explain the fact that everybody finds NAPLAN stressful and they are not alone and you are always there for them to talk to.

2) Revise – The best way to gain confidence in anything, is practice, practice and more practice! Use the next 3 weeks to offer support via pop quizzes, questions and sit down learning together.

3) A reward – Hard work should always be rewarded. Whether it be going to the movies, the beach or seeing their favourite sports team. An incentive to “try your best” definitely works!

4) Encourage – When the teacher has a whole class room to teach unfortunately sometimes students may not get the attention they need. Offering your support and encouragement is the best way to get kids fired up and ready!

Have you ever had your children say: "I'll never use this" regarding Maths?

Just remind them, that its about "learning to learn."
