Nature supports relationships that support engagement and learning. Love this research.

UCL researchers surveyed 451 primary children before and after they spent time learning outside. The results that stood out weren't about knowledge. They were about relationships.

81% said they got on better with their teacher. 79% said the same about their classmates. Four out of five felt more confident in themselves.

Most of us have felt this without needing the data. The child who barely speaks in class is the one telling you about the beetle they found. Something shifts when the walls come off.

It was an adventurous journey for students from Kenmore State High School this week as they crossed Moreton Bay to Minjerribah as part of the Duke of Edinburgh program.

On arrival, students and staff received a special Quandamooka welcome, followed by an engaging cultural workshop led by Matt Burns. The session provided an opportunity to learn about Country, traditional plant uses and the knowledge connected to the island’s diverse environment.

The students worked exceptionally well as a team throughout the experience, exploring Minjerribah’s remarkable range of plant species and gaining a deeper appreciation of the relationship between people, plants and Country.

Stepping back in time on St Helena Island, students this week became curious historians and creative storytellers! 📖🔎

The island provided the inspiration for young writers from Indooroopilly SS, using the sights, stories and voices of the past to spark their own historical narratives.

Students from Rockhampton Girls GS and Goonellabah Public School stepped into the role of historians, investigating evidence and uncovering stories of life on St Helena.

Through museum theatre, exploration and learning on Country, students connected with the island’s rich history in meaningful and memorable ways.

This week, Year 5 students from John Paul College became historians through the Colonial Brisbane program at Newstead House.

​Through museum theatre, artefact analysis and exploration, students investigated the development of British colonies and met with significant individuals such as John Clements Wickham.

​Stepping back in time, these young historians developed thoughtful questions to examine how the colony’s establishment impacted First Nations Australians and altered the local natural environment.

​A huge thank you to the students for bringing so much curiosity and enthusiasm when investigating our shared history.

🤔 What would you choose if you were asked to decide which museum exhibits should be kept when a museum closes?

This was one of the thought-provoking questions posed to the Year 3 students from Birkdale South State School during their recent visit to the History in a Box program at Fort Lytton National Park.

As young historians, students were challenged to think critically about the importance of objects, stories and memories. Through hands-on investigation and discussion, they explored how museums help preserve our shared history and why some artefacts are considered significant enough to save for future generations.

The program encouraged students to step into the shoes of museum curators, carefully weighing up the historical value of different items and considering whose stories might be told through them.

There were plenty of lively debates as students shared their ideas and justified their choices!
Learning experiences like these help students develop historical inquiry skills while fostering an appreciation for Queensland's rich heritage. We were delighted to see such thoughtful engagement and curiosity from our young visitors.

This week, Year 4 students from Everleigh State School took part in the First Contact program!

​Stepping into the boots of 1823 shipwreck survivors Pamphlett, Parsons and Finnegan, the students learned how survival was made possible through the deep knowledge, guidance and generosity of the Quandamooka Peoples.

​Thank you to all the students for your outstanding curiosity and collaboration while exploring Moreton Bay's shared history!

The wonderful Somerset Hills State School Preps and Year 1’s investigated a variety of marine organisms during the Habitat Heroes program this week.
A sediment grab was utilised to collect a sample to analyse under the microscope. The seafloor was teeming with life to the wonder of our junior scientists!

St Columba’s Primary School Prep students became Super Scientists using their senses to make discoveries about Quandamooka (Moreton Bay)!
They observed the amazing external features of living things and discovered how these features help plants and animals survive.
Our days were filled with curiosity, discovery and learning - well done Super Scientists!
