MacGregor State High School

Our Year 12 Hospitality students recently put their culinary and hospitality skills into practice, hosting a four-course Italian long lunch for 45 staff members as part of their final assessment task.

From the preparation and presentation of each dish to the professional service throughout the event, our students demonstrated the creativity, teamwork and organisation required to deliver a successful hospitality experience.

Happy National Science Week! 🔬

In the spirit of STEM learning, yesterday at Lunch 2 our Mathematics and Science Faculty Captains Victor and Natalie, along with other Science Ambassadors, hosted a Teachers vs Students Trivia Competition!

After rounds of multiple-choice questions and some practical mini-games, the student team narrowly claimed victory against our teachers. As punishment for their loss, our teachers were then challenged to perform The Periodic Table Song in front of a very entertained crowd of students.

A great way to celebrate National Science Week while putting both our students’ and teachers’ knowledge to the test! 🧪

Recently, our Senior TheatreSports team, coached by Mr Stoll, competed in the TheatreSports semi-final after successfully progressing through the first round of the competition earlier this year.

The team faced some very strong competition and, although they narrowly missed out on a place in the grand final, reaching the semi-final is an achievement we are incredibly proud of. Congratulations to all of our Senior TheatreSports students!

A special congratulations also goes to our Junior TheatreSports team, coached by Mr Stoll and Ms Stephan, who progressed through to the semi-finals earlier this term. The team narrowly missed out on a place in the grand final by just one point, finishing in an outstanding 3rd place! 🥉

Please join us in congratulating our Year 12 Mathematics and Science Faculty Captain, Natalie Su, who has received the prestigious "Outstanding Senior STEM Student Award" at the 2026 Peter Doherty Awards.

The awards ceremony held on Tuesday evening at QUT celebrated excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education.

As Mathematics and Science Faculty Captain, Natalie has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to STEM learning beyond the classroom. She established the MacGregor STEM Club, creating a Teams group to share STEM programs, initiatives and opportunities with students across the school.

Natalie leaves behind a valuable legacy through the STEM Club, providing the future Mathematics and Science Captains with a strong foundation to build on. She has also represented MacGregor in numerous mathematics competitions through the Australian Mathematics Trust and encouraged fellow students to get involved.

Looking ahead, Natalie has a clear plan to pursue a STEM pathway beyond school through a Bachelor of Mathematics and Master of Data Science.

We are incredibly proud to see STEM achievements continue to thrive at MacGregor SHS. Congratulations Natalie, and Happy Science Week!

Last week, our Wind Symphony students took part in their annual Primary School Tour, performing for students at Warrigal Road State School - DETE, Robertson State School and MacGregor State School.

This year’s performances had an animal theme, with Year 11 saxophonist Leon leading an ‘identify the animal’ game in a very convincing rooster costume. The rubber chicken piece was also a clear favourite with audiences!

The tour follows a successful Term 2 for Wind Symphony, who were selected as one of just seven finalists from more than 8500 students across 170 ensembles and 86 schools in the Fanfare heats. Directed by Mrs Robyn Rosewarne, the ensemble performed at the Fanfare Regional Final at the Old Museum in June.

Our Year 9 Business Enterprise students have recently participated in their Future Fest workshop, where they collaborated to create innovative business ideas designed to make the world a better place.

Thanks to our school partnership with Future Anything, students were joined by Rakalene Condon, Chief Delivery Officer at Transmax. With more than 25 years’ experience in technology, product and business transformation, Rakalene shared her expertise and challenged students to refine their enterprises, considering their unique selling points, marketing, beneficiaries, funding and customer demographics.

Rakalene’s experience leading high-performing teams and driving innovation provided students with a valuable insight into how ideas can be developed into real-world solutions.

The workshop has helped students prepare for the upcoming Lion’s Den event on Monday 14 September (Week 10), where five groups will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. All groups will also have the chance to showcase their enterprises through pop-up stalls, sharing their ideas with staff and fellow students.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate English Head of Department, Mrs Kathy McKenna, who recently attended the 2026 Australian Education Awards as a finalist for Head of Department of the Year.

Being recognised at a national level is a wonderful reflection of Kathy’s outstanding leadership, expertise and the positive impact she has on teaching and learning at MacGregor State High School.

Kathy is an exceptional educator who consistently goes above and beyond to support both students and staff, strengthen our English program and contribute to the wider school community.

Congratulations Kathy on this well-deserved recognition. We are so proud to celebrate your achievements and the incredible work you do for our school! 👏

Congratulations to our Dance Performance Teams students, who took to the Ekka stage last week as part of the Ekka Eisteddfod.

After successfully auditioning for the event, our students performed a massive 20-minute set on the Ekka stage. As the only state school to successfully audition, this was a fantastic achievement and one we are very proud of.

Their dedication, focus and commitment were clear throughout the performance, and they represented MacGregor SHS with professionalism and pride.

Well done to all of our talented Dance Performance Teams students, and a huge thank you to everyone who supported them in preparing for this special performance! 👏💃

Last week our Dance Performance Teams achieved outstanding results at the Starbound Dance Eisteddfod. Not only did they display excellent sportsmanship throughout the evening, but they also won every section they entered and placed in every routine they performed!

This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work, dedication and commitment our students have shown throughout the year. Students were also awarded 'The Showstopper Award,' which is presented to the school with the most entertaining and memorable performance.
