We recently honoured the brave heroes that help when trouble strikes for Thank a First Responder Day, with the children creating appreciation posters dedicated to these superstars.
Children spent time discussing the important roles that first responders play in keeping our community safe, and we wanted to share our respect and thanks to these amazing members of our community who help us when we call 000.
This experience also provided an opportunity to talk about the trusted adults and helpers in our community that children and families can turn to if they ever need support.
A number of our Kindy mums and dads are amongst these superstars who work in these roles. Kindy mum Peta says our poster at Morningside Police Station brings a smile to her face every time she sees it!

🥰 We love the community support we receive from our local MP’s and Councillors. 🥰
Di Farmer MP popped into our June Committee Meeting to meet our fantastic 2026 A-team of volunteer parents on our Committee, and share the many different ways she can help our organisation.
Di has such a keen interest in early education and the best way we can all support our children’s learning, so it’s a great opportunity to mutually share any insights into the Early Childhood Education Sector.

Our fabulous neighbours YMCA Cannon Hill Community Centre would appreciate donations of clean & usable children's clothing to share with some of the youngest members of our community.
Families and friends of Cannon Hill Kindy are welcome to bring donations into Kindy and we'll drop them off to the Y. ❤
Do you have any baby or children's clothing you no longer need?
Our centre is currently in need of baby and children’s clothing in good, clean condition. Second-hand items are absolutely welcome, but we kindly ask that all donations are free from stains and suitable for immediate use.
If you’re able to help, donations can be dropped off Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 4:00pm at:
📍 18 Lang Street, Cannon Hill
We are so grateful for the ongoing generosity and kindness of our community—your support truly makes a difference for local families.
Thank you 💛

Thank you to our Kindy parent Travis for helping us learn about ANZAC Day and remember those who went to war.
We learned that the red Poppy represents the first flower to bloom across the battlefields after the fighting ended.
Travis painted our faces with camouflage paint, similar to what the soldiers used to blend in with the bush and stay out of sight!
Dawn Service is held so early as it’s the same time of day they landed at Anzac Cove.
After the visit, we followed the children’s interest in exploring the army, navy and airforce, with the children building an aircraft carrier and planes.
We enjoyed different methods of making red poppies from playdough, paper plates, cupcake wrappers and paint, and created a wreath.
Together we made some yummy Anzac biscuits to enjoy. We learned that these bickies didn’t go stale in the care packages sent to soldiers from loved ones back home.
Lest we forget.

MEET OUR STAFF: Yun Kyung Youn
Ms Yun has worked in Inclusion Support roles across other Lady Gowrie community kindergartens and jumped at the opportunity to join Cannon Hill Kindy in late 2025 on a more permanent basis. From Term 2 Ms Yun will be our Inclusion Support across both Kindy programs, making sure all of our children feel welcome and included.
Yun has been working in Early Childhood Education in Australia for seven years and loves to see how children learn and grow throughout their Kindy year as their confidence also grows!
After studying senior high school in Sydney, Yun returned to Korea knowing she'd be back to Australia soon as she loved our lifestyle. Moving permanently to Brisbane in about 2010, Yun and her husband soon welcomed two sons, shortly joined by 3 dogs!
Yun has a keen interest in training her dogs, and her Labrador/Kelpie/Rottweiler mix is a pro on the agility/obstacle courses! Weekends are also spent hiking and exploring National Parks, swimming and doing "Mum Stuff".
Interesting fact! Yun speaks mostly Korean at home with her husband and sons but is very keen to learn more Aussie Slang! 👍

WELCOME MADDIE! 🙋♀️👏
We'd love to introduce you to our new Centre Director, Maddie Sefton!
Maddie brings a wealth of experience and passion for early childhood education, with a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and many years working as an ECT and Director. With a strong commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment, she will play a key role in guiding our Kindy towards continued success and excellence.
"A BIT ABOUT ME..."
I believe the first five years of a child’s life are so important to their social and emotional wellbeing. Learning through play creates opportunities for children to explore their own interests and strengthen their sense of identity. Relationships are so important to
me, and I am looking forward to meeting each and every child and
family throughout your 2026 learning journey at Cannon Hill Kindy.
Please join us in welcoming "Ms Maddie" to our fantastic little community kindy!
