🎼🎬 How do filmmakers, composers, and producers work together to create a great film score?
Today, we’re delighted to welcome Clifford Bradley, composer, arranger, and orchestrator for film, television, and stage, to QUT.
Clifford’s recent credits include composing the soundtrack for The Edge, as well as providing arrangements and orchestrations for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, both available on Netflix.
Supported by the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, Clifford will be sharing insights from his professional practice with Film, Animation, Music, and Production Design students, exploring how original scores are commissioned, briefed, written, recorded, and integrated into screen productions.
One of the key takeaways from Clifford’s presentation? A great score is a conversation. The music exists in service of the film’s narrative and the director’s vision, developed through collaboration between filmmakers, composers, and producers.
Another important lesson for emerging creatives: trust the process. A cue created in a computer may feel incomplete at first, but once live instruments or voices are introduced, the music can take on an entirely new life.
