WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4 💙

Our school has certainly come alive again after the holidays!

There’s been plenty happening, with learning back in full swing, music filling the music rooms, friends catching up and plenty of action on the tennis courts and oval.

A highlight of the week so far has been coming together as a whole school for our special Blessing of the Pets Liturgy. 🐾 🐠🐱🐶

And our Preps… they’ve grown so much! It’s been lovely watching their confidence grow, friendships develop and seeing just how much they’ve learnt since the beginning of the year.

If Week One is anything to go by, we’re in for a fun term! 🤩

There's only two more sleeps until the beginning of Term 4!🙌🏻

We hope everyone has had a relaxing holiday and we can't wait to welcome all familes back to St Columba's on Tuesday!👋🏻

As part of the Franciscan tradition, Father Joseph will lead a Blessing of the Pets on Tuesday 6 October at 10.00 am in Iona Court. Parents are welcome to attend. Students are invited to bring a photo of their pet for a special blessing during a short liturgy. If your child does not have a pet, they are welcome to bring a favourite stuffed toy instead.🐕🐈

There will be no before school activities in Week 1. All activities will begin in Week 2.

PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY👨🏼‍💼

Congratulations to Mr Stanley who was Principal of the Day at the end of Term 3. 👏🏻

Bodhi did an outstanding job on what was a very busy day. Some of his tasks were leading Morning Announcements, organising our Week 10 Scavenger Hunt and snoozing in the Principal’s chair. Most important of all, apparently he balanced the 2027 budget. 🧮

Rumour has it that a number of students told Mr Fogarty it was time to retire so Bodhi could continue running the school! 🤫

Bodhi’s class were very grateful to enjoy a pizza party on the day - just one of the perks of being friends with the Principal. 🍕

Well done Bodhi - we hope you are enjoying your holidays after such a busy day leading the best school! 🙌🏻

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT✨

Congratulations Ethan (Year 4) on your outstanding achievement at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Sydney last week.🏃

Ethan finished 10th in the boys’ 10-year-old division - 10th in Australia is incredible!🙌🏻

He also earned a silver medal as part of his relay team, with each of the six team members running a 1 km leg.🥈

We are very proud of you Ethan! 👏🏻

STEM MAD SUCCESS🙌

Our Year 4 STEM MAD students have demonstrated outstanding innovation and problem-solving skills as they developed projects that combine Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with a focus on making a difference (MAD) in the world.👩‍🔬✖️💻👷

Students showed remarkable creativity and collaboration throughout the design process. Last week our two teams showcased their ideas at St Andrew's, Ferny Grove, where they also got hands on with some fun technology! Then on Monday of this week, they participated in the BCE STEM MAD Online Showcase with students from across a large number of BCE schools.👥

Our participating teams were:

LUNCH LOOP LEGENDS: Eva, Sarah and Phoebe.🍱

BUZZZ ALERT: Rupert, Scarlett, James and Jessie.🐝

Now for the big news! Drum roll please🥁🥁🥁 .......

We are very excited to share that the Lunch Loop Legends came 2nd overall in the PRIMARY STEM category on Monday AND won a People's Choice award! A huge congratulations to the team for their wonderful success. They have now been invited to particpate in the STEM MAD Nationals in Sydney in late November. 👏🏻

We are incredibly proud of both teams for identifying a real world challenge and coming up with innovative solutions! Our future is certainly in safe hands! 👌

A big thankyou to Mrs Irwin and Ms Morgante for supporting our students in this initiative!🙏

Our Year 1 students have been learning about the Old Testament and the life of Moses.

As part of their learning, students selected one of the Moses stories they explored and created a diorama to represent the main teaching or message of the story. Using a range of craft materials and plenty of creativity, students carefully designed and constructed their scenes to bring these important biblical stories to life.

We are very proud of their thoughtful work and artistic efforts!

Ethan from Year 4 will represent Queensland in the 10-year cross-country team this week. 🏃

He’ll travel to Sydney to compete, with his main race on Tuesday followed by the cross-country relay team on Thursday. 🗓
