❤️ Inspiring the next generation of San Sisters ❤️

Our 2025 College Captain, Celeste Harris, proudly joined our 2026 Kokoda Youth Challenge participants on the weekend, completing the 48km challenge for the second time after months of dedication, training and preparation alongside current staff and students.

It was wonderful to see generations of San Sisters reconnecting, encouraging one another and continuing to inspire a spirit of service, resilience and representation.

A huge congratulations to Celeste, Ellie Balev (current staff member), Ava Crase and Asher Holley for taking on this incredible challenge. Your commitment and determination are a true reflection of the San spirit.

We can’t wait to see more of these inspiring connections between past and present students in the years to come. 🤍🖤

🤔 A San Sista mystery...

Have you ever wondered where the term “San Sista” (or “San Sister”) came from?
It definitely wasn’t something we used in the early days of San Sisto, so when did it become part of our vernacular? My best guess is that it started gaining popularity sometime in the 2010s—but who coined it, and how did it catch on?

💬 We’d love to hear your memories! Do you remember when you first heard “San Sista”? Was it a particular year, event, or group of students that started it?
Share your thoughts in the comments—let’s see if we can solve this little piece of San Sisto history together! 🖤🤍

Approximate date: 1986 (during San Sisto College’s 25th anniversary year)

Source: An article believed to be from The Catholic Leader (Brisbane), titled “Sister Jude remembers teaching as ‘chalk, talk’”, written by Judy Mishinski with photography by Glenn Barnes. The article was published during San Sisto College’s 25th anniversary celebrations in August 1986. At the time, Sister Jude was still living at the College following her retirement from teaching.

As highlighted in this article, Sister M. Jude played a significant role in the history of San Sisto College as its first Principal, leading the College from 1961 to 1965. An Australian Dominican Sister, Sister Jude helped establish the foundations of the College in its early years and was remembered for her dedication to education, compassion and genuine care for her students.

The article reflects on Sister Jude’s experiences as an educator and her memories of a time when teaching was described as “chalk, talk”. Her commitment to nurturing young women through education, kindness and guidance left a lasting impact on the San Sisto community.

In recognition of her contribution, Sister Jude’s legacy continues through Jude House and the St Jude Resource Centre. Represented by the colour green and the crocodile mascot, Jude House honours her strength, compassion and enduring connection to San Sisto College.
