This is the permission every creative soul needs to get writing. If you're waiting for the perfect words, or the perfect timing, or perhaps the perfect confidence, your story will remain unwritten.

Nobody's first draft is perfect; it's more likely to be messy, clumsy, and imperfect. You can shape, trim, and polish it later, but only if you have more to work with than a blank page. There will be many iterations of your story until you are satisfied with it.

What tricks do you have in your writing arsenal to help you go from blank screen/page to a page of decent prose?

This can be worked on in developmental editing, making a lukewarm story into a novel readers can't put down.
