Today we welcomed grandparents and special people to St Finbarr's for a beautiful celebration of faith, love and connection during Catholic Education Week.

Through their wisdom, encouragement and unwavering support, these special people help light the way for future generations, sharing values, stories and faith that continue to shape young hearts and minds.

After Mass (where there was standing room only!) our very special visitors enjoyed time in classrooms before gathering for tea, coffee, cake and conversation. These simple moments of connection reminded us that some of life's greatest gifts are found in relationships, shared memories and time spent together.

Thank you to all the grandparents and special people who joined us today, and to those who were with us in spirit. Your love continues to shine brightly in the lives of our children and our community.

When we share our light, we help others find their way.💛

Our Jubilee Parish Schools got together this afternoon for a Pub Choir-style celebration in the Church to “share our light” as part of staff prayer.

✨ Catholic Education Week 2026 ✨

This week, we celebrate Catholic Education Week and the theme "Share Your Light, Inspire Others."

At St Finbarr's, we recognise that every person has been gifted with unique talents, strengths and qualities that can make a difference in the lives of others. Inspired by the example of Jesus, our students are learning that even the smallest acts of kindness, courage, compassion and service can shine God's light into the world.

As a community of faith and learning, we are called not only to discover our gifts, but to share them generously so that we may inspire hope, build connections and make a positive difference in our school, parish and wider community.

Congratulations to those students who celebrated their First Holy Communion this weekend surrounded by their families, friends and Parish community.

Please keep these children, and all the families still preparing for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation, in your prayers over the coming weeks.

What fabulous weather for Gala Day! ☀️

The sun was shining a spotlight on our students’ great teamwork, and they had so much fun!

Thank you to our incredible teaching team who stepped in as referees, coaches and umpires. Your energy and commitment make days like this possible.

And a big shout‑out to our wonderful parent helpers — Jason, Melina, Darren, Kristy, Peter, Dana, Dimal and Jess. Your support means the world to our children and our school community.

How brilliant for every child in our school to have the opportunity to learn in person from our friends from Zenadth Kes!

As part of our innovative City–Country Partnership, we welcomed Walter, Meleisha, TK, Jvarni, Ivyanne, Emily, Lakeisha and Brendan to St Finbarr’s yesterday.

After sharing with the whole school, these incredible young people spent time in every classroom from Prep to Year 6, teaching our learners about country, culture, language and life in the Torres Strait.

The conversations and questions were magic — hearing about going to school on a ferry, their totems, their families, and their favourite places. Our learners were captivated, and the connections in each room were beautiful to witness.

And then the cultural dances and songs… our students were in awe! The confidence, pride and joy our visitors shared was something truly special.

Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart School, Thursday Island & Hammond Island - your community must be so proud of these young people. They represented their families and school with such strength and grace.

🌊 🐟 NAIDOC WEEK at St Finbarr's 🐟 🌊

As a school we proudly joined communities across Australia in celebrating NAIDOC Week, a time to honour and learn from the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We gathered in prayer led by our Belonging Team, taking time to reflect on the importance of connection, respect and walking together.

Students helped create a beautiful sea of fish, inspired by our partnership with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, Waiben (Thursday Island). Through this artwork, our learners explored the significance of water in the lives, culture and daily experiences of our friends in the Torres Strait, while celebrating the connections that unite our communities across land and sea.

We are grateful for the opportunities our City-Country Partnership provides, helping our students deepen their understanding of First Nations perspectives and strengthen relationships built on learning, respect and belonging.

🎉 100 DAYS OF PREP! 🎉

One hundred days ago, these little faces walked through our gates ready to begin their St Finbarr's journey.

Since then, they have learned, laughed, made friends, built confidence and filled our school with so much joy.

Today we're celebrating 100 days of adventures, discoveries, lost hats, big smiles and lots of learning along the way!

We couldn't be prouder of our amazing Prep learners and all they have achieved in just 100 days. Here's to the next 100! 🥳
