This August, the Space Eater studio is a place where fiction slips into reality, socks accumulate, sound interrupts, fairy tales get thorny, and certainty is never quite certain.

Enzo Nazario, Anastasia Vogelsang and Leah Shelton are each diving into new ideas, new processes and strange new worlds. Check it out!

🧐 Enzo Nazario
Enzo is interested in the space between fiction and reality, where everyday behaviour becomes strange and meaning is constantly shifting. Working with text, movement and collective improvisation, he investigates how choreography can emerge through shared instinct and responsive decision-making. Enzo will continue developing Word Bank, exploring unstable theatrical worlds, evolving physical scores and the tension between certainty and uncertainty. Joining Enzo in the studio are Kerrod Box, El Lou and Sarah Hurcell.

🧦 Anastasia Vogelsang
A take two on her 2024 Indie piece [insert name], Anna is inspired by the endless cycle of laundry and the everyday rituals of clothing — the garments that are not quite clean, not quite dirty, the piles waiting to be folded, and the tasks that never end. Collaborating with musician Carl Vogelsang, she will experiment how live-sound can support and disrupt the visual world.

🌹 Leah Shelton
Leah is creating a new solo work Keep Sleeping, Beauty, directed by performance icon Ursula Martinez (UK) and premiering at Metro Arts this November (stay tuned for ticket links). Slicing through the thorny briars of a culture that seeks to tranquilise, restrain and contain women, the work reimagines the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty to examine how the dreams of yesterday have become the realities of today.

📑 INTERNSHIP SPOTLIGHT: CAITLIN MURPHY 📑

Over the past few months, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Caitlin into the Phluxus2 family as an internship through QUT 💞

From rehearsals and workshops to spreadsheets, social posts and all the bits in between, Caitlin experienced the many layers of life at Phluxus2.

Her internship offered insight into both the creative and administrative sides of running an dance collective, from supporting projects behind the scenes to organising resources, contributing to communications and learning what it takes to keep the projects flowing, and the lights on.
Along the way, she was able to shadow Neri as choreographer on projects with Brisbane Festival, Queensland Theatre and Pramkicker, connect with many of our artists and collaborators, facilitate open training and assist the admin team (Raw and Jill) - all of whom generously shared their knowledge, experiences and ways of working.

💭 Caitlin reflects:
‘Through my internship I learnt about what it takes to run and maintain an arts collective from both behind the scenes and in practice. One of my favourite aspects of the internship was getting to experience so many different settings within the creative process and interact with a range of practitioners who were all open to assisting my own journey.’

We are are thrilled to welcome Jade back into the studio again this August ✨

Jade Brider (she/her) is a freelance performer, visual artist and movement teacher for people experiencing disabilities, and the director of VOiiiD Collective. Based in Magandjin, her multidisciplinary practice brings together dance, visual art and installation, using the body as a starting point to explore liminality. She holds a BA (Hons) from London Contemporary Dance School and works as a self-taught visual artist under the name Human Scaffold.

Join us for a month of contemporary training led by two fabulous local artists, Kia Taberner (that’s right he is back!) and Hsin-Ju (Raw) Ely. Across the month, these classes invite you to deepen your practice, challenge your physicality, and expand your movement vocabulary.

🔷KIA TABERNER
Kia explores how the limits of the body can become a source of inspiration. With training at QUT and a broad range of experience performing and collaborating across the country, his practice is grounded in adaptability, and discovery. Expect a physically focused class that builds strength and conditioning while encouraging exploration, especially through floorwork. Grounded, challenging, and chill - love this!

🔶HSIN-JU (RAW) ELY
Long-time Phluxus2 senior artist, Raw brings a wealth of experience from an extensive international career across dance, theatre and opera. Her classes are known for dynamic floorwork and fluidity within strength. A one off special treat getting to train with Mumma Raw!

🌱TOUR READY - THE NEXT 14 SECONDS 🌱
Are you a festival or venue looking for award-winning, audience engaging new Qld work? We have got you covered!

Yesterday the team pitched The Next 14 Seconds, our latest tour ready production at QShowcase 2026. We are currently building touring options for 2027 onwards and looking forward to seeing where this work may take us.

The Next 14 Seconds is a full-length ensemble work that draws together dance, theatre, visual and sound design to present an immersive tapestry inspired by human evolution. This work questions where we have been, and where are we going? A concept that inspired the initial development of this production was the scientific speculation that if we were to condense the history of our universe into one 24hr day, human existence would only represent that LAST 14 seconds. 
And so, what have we achieved in this time? And If time is all we have, what are going to do with our NEXT 14 seconds?

🍓 SPACE EATER: Bella Gilligan 🍓

June and July was a busy time in the studio for our Space Eaters, with Jade Brider, Nadia Milford and Kerrod Box deep in research mode, testing ideas, following curiosities and allowing new directions to emerge. We are excited to announce our newest choreographer in residence, Bella Gilligan. Bella joined the Phluxus family in 2025 as a dancer in IndepenDANCE.

🌀Bella is exploring letting go, interrogating the tension between staying and leaving. She asks, what happens when novelty dissolves, what compels us to hold on, and for how long? She is inspired by absurdism, humour, and existentialism.

We’re delighted to share that our work The Next 14 Seconds has been selected to pitch at QShowcase 2026, presented by Stage Queensland and QTouring.

THE NEXT 14 SECONDS is an acclaimed dance-theatre piece choreographed by Nerida Matthaei and performed by our incredible ensemble Asher Bowen-Saunders, Jade Brider, Hsin-Ju Ely, Georgia Pierce and Jacob Watton, alongside a team of leading local creatives! In this infinite cosmos our world is a small but beautiful fragment, we, homo sapiens, are said to represent a mere 14 seconds of its condensed cosmic existence. Fourteen seconds; the time it took for Apollo 13 to make its mid course correction before landing in the Pacific Ocean. The time the average person decides if they like how they look in the mirror each day.
Longer than firing a gun and more than enough time to tell someone they are loved...❤️
