It is with a tinge of sadness and a lot of anticipation that I write this post to the people who have supported Nabei.
Unfortunately we are no longer offering in class services as I (Phil) have accepted a teaching position at an international school in Japan. The journey with all of you has been unforgettable, and I could not have done this without your support. I’d like to thank all of the young stars who have worked with Nabei over the past few years. I am so proud of your ongoing success in various fields, and I’m happy that Nabei gave you a platform to further explore your understanding of culture and to share it with so many children.
For the centres and staff that supported us, thank you for valuing our culture enough to bring us into your communities. I have made treasured memories in your centres that I will build on in Japan, and I am incredibly proud to be able to come here and share parts of our culture with even more people.
I hope to develop a training course for early educators in the future, but in the meantime I point you to a variety of excellent organisations, including BlackCard Cultural Tours in Brisbane, Riley Callie Resources, Wingaru Education, and Yarn Bark for deadly resources and education.
Thank you for letting me follow my dream and Dreaming, and for letting me honour my Elders.

Nabei Indigenous Education was blessed this morning to tour The Purple House, learning about this vital health service and how they support remote Indigenous communities to access dialysis and health services.
We learned about how the organisation started from the grassroots collective of artists who wanted to provide better medical care in their communities, listened to stories from some of the original artists about their experiences flying to Sydney, heard about current patients early lives as teachers in their community, learned about how bush medicine is made, discovered the incredible organic growth of an organisation formed to service the community that now supports families from some of the most remote communities in the country, and saw first hand the power of community influence on health.
From the board members to the CEO, the employees, the patients, and the volunteers, Purple House is a powerful example of how self-determination works! If you want to learn more and support one of the best examples of community owned and driven health care, check out www.purplehouse.org.au or buy some of their hand made bush medicines from your local distributor 💜💜💜

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, and is a chance to reinforce the value of all children learning their culture, and about the culture of others. As Australian educators, we all have the responsibility to give access to our cultural education.
Our actions today can make a better tomorrow, for ourselves and for our children. If you need inspiration or guidance, there are heaps of great online sources, such as Wingaru Education and Riley Callie Resources, or check out www.nabei.com.au for more details!

MABO DAY: How can we use this legal finding to inform our classroom?
Mabo Day is, at it’s core, a reminder that we can not decide that something belongs to us just because we like it. It tells us that stealing is wrong, but it also guides us to restoring trust in broken relationships.
Today, take time to show your young people who Eddie Koiki Mabo is, and talk about his struggles to have our rights returned. You can use this to explore feelings such as sorrow and anger, but also to consider methods of communicating those feelings.
Most of all, let’s help to reinforce the understanding that it is our responsibility as world citizens to help those around us to restore justice, as Eddie Mabo did.
Our world is far from perfect, but if we do our job well in early childhood education, we will build a better future.
