Movement Night. A room full of people moving, creating and connecting. No scripts, no pressure, just being completely present with each other.

Through physical theatre, we play, explore, take risks and create something together that could only exist in that room, on that night.

It’s hard to explain exactly what makes Movement Night so special. Maybe it’s the freedom. Maybe it’s the people. Maybe it’s that feeling of everyone being completely in it together.

DAY 3: SOLO PERFORMANCES

🎭 A little peek inside Term 3!

Term 3 has been full of creativity! While School of Excellence has been diving into film techniques, our Foundation classes are busy creating, devising and bringing their ideas to life ✨

Last week our Extension 3 cohort were lucky enough to take to the stage at the Norman Price Theatre at TAFE South Bank for a monologue and audition masterclass hosted annually by Lisa O'Neill and Anatoly Frusin. Lisa & Anatoly are two of the main lecturers at the TAFE/University of Canberra Bachelor of Creative Industries (Acting & Performance) and hold the auditions for the higher education programs each year making them the perfect mentors for our Extension 3's to perform in front of and get accustomed to taking on board direction and feedback that they can hopefully use in their future pursuits.

We are incredibly proud of the work these teens have put in and presented and would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Lisa and Anatoly for working so closely with them and to TAFE Queensland for continuing to provide such wonderful opportunities for young creatives at the Australian Acting Academy.

So… what actually happens when we devise? 🎭

They’ll throw around ideas, create characters, experiment with scenes, make choices, change their minds, try again and slowly bring their own version of the story to life.

Devising is a little bit messy, very creative and always different from class to class. It gives every student a chance to contribute their ideas. By the end, it’s not just a story they’ve created... it’s something they’ve built together, with a little piece of everyone in it. 💛

It’s time to READY, SET… DEVISE! 🎭✨

Our final module of Term 3 starts next week, and it’s time for our students to take the reins!

Over the next few weeks, our classes will work together to take a story and completely make it their own by creating characters, building scenes, sharing ideas and seeing where their imaginations take them.

There’s no one ‘right’ way to tell a story, and that’s the fun of devising. We can’t wait to see what each class creates 💛
