Student Spotlight: Thimo from Germany 🇩🇪 → Townsville, Queensland 🇦🇺

After completing his science degree in Düsseldorf, Thimo travelled to Queensland to continue his research in medical and molecular science.

His PhD focused on improving the diagnosis and management of seafood allergies in the Asia–Pacific. He became the first international recipient of a Centre for Food & Allergy Research scholarship and graduated cm laude, supported by dedicated facilities and leading researchers at JCU’s Australian Institute of Tropical Health & Medicine.

“Townsville gave me both the research environment and the community I needed. It felt like the right place to grow professionally and personally.”

Here in Queensland, research isn’t just studied, it’s applied to real challenges and real impact.

Opportunity starts in Queensland. Read more about Thimo: https://www.studyqueensland.qld.gov.au/blog/student-stories/student-spotlight-thimo-germany

This is your sign to take the first step towards your dreams 👣

For Minho, that step meant leaving South Korea, building his English skills, and chasing his swimming dream while studying in Queensland.

Since arriving in Australia in 2019, he has balanced school and competition, found support in and out of the classroom, and celebrated one of his proudest milestones yet, winning his first national gold medal.

Now, he is setting his sights on the 2028 LA and 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Big goals can start with one decision, and studying in Queensland could be yours.

That’s a wrap on the Study Queensland Construction Innovation Challenge 👏

84 international students spent the day working with Queensland construction employers to put their ideas into action and help solve real industry challenges.

Through Study Queensland’s Talent-Ed employability program, students can build the skills employers are looking for, connect with industry and gain valuable local work experience.

For one student, the day opened doors to people they may not have otherwise met:
“Thank you for this unique opportunity. I met people from companies that I wouldn’t have found a way to reach.”

Congratulations to all students who took part and to the winning team, who worked with Hutchinson Builders on an AI-powered data dashboard to help improve project decision-making.

Keen to build your skills and meet Queensland employers? Keep an eye out for future Study Queensland Talent-Ed opportunities.

Queensland is BIG 🌏

Fun fact: The Great Barrier Reef covers 344,400 km² making it bigger than the UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands combined and it is so vast you can even see it from space.
And it’s not just big...it’s diverse.

For Pauline Ramos-Bezarrebollar that was the dream. Coming from Mexico, she had always wanted to explore and better understand the Reef and now she’s doing exactly that, studying corals and the marine environment up close.

From dream destination to real-life classroom.

Big landscapes. Real experiences. Endless reasons to choose Queensland.
