It’s Book Week, and while many schools and early learning settings mark the event by inviting children to dress up as a beloved character, it’s all about nurturing a love for literature. Whether it’s curling up together with a treasured favourite, scheduling a trip to the local library, or making time to squeeze in a few extra pages at bedtime, there are so many ways to make “book time” a regular time to connect with your child. Try asking
• Would you like to choose a book you know, or a new book?
• Would you like a made-up story or a book about facts?
• What is his/her face telling us?
• What do you think is going to happen next?
• Who was your favourite character? What did you like about them?
• If you wanted to change the ending of the book to something different, what could have happened instead?

At Eatons Hill Community Kindergarten children and educators embraced both National Sorry Day and NAIDOC Week as opportunities to learn, reflect, celebrate and grow together as a community.
The children marked National Sorry Day by creating their own native hibiscus flowers - a beautiful Sea of Purple symbolising compassion, dignity and hope. During NAIDOC week, they were joined by local First Nations artist Wendy Rix for her fifth year of art workshops at the kindy, exploring fish-inspired Aboriginal art, and greeting Wendy in her own language.
Moments like these remind us why early childhood education matters so much.

During Early Learning Matters Week, Pioneer Community Kindergarten were delighted to welcome Nigel Dalton MP, Member for Mackay, to join them around their Bilby fire pit for a special conversation about kindergarten.
As part of the newly established Bilby Student Council, children proudly took the lead, sharing what makes their kindy so special. They enthusiastically introduced Nigel to Demi Dog, showed him the growing cotton plant, talked about the many adventures they have in the beautiful outdoor playground, and eagerly explained why they love coming to kindy each week.
The Student Council members confidently shared their ideas, asked questions and represented the voices of their friends, demonstrating that children are capable contributors with valuable perspectives to offer. It was wonderful to see them speak with such pride, knowing their thoughts and experiences were genuinely valued by an important community leader.
Thank you, Nigel, for taking the time to listen to children, celebrate their ideas, and recognise the important role kindergarten plays in helping children grow, belong and thrive.

Congratulations to Amber, one of the Early Childhood Teachers at Cannon Hill Kindy .
After five years with us as an Inclusion Support Educator, Amber has completed a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education through Australian Catholic University and stepped into the role of a qualified Early Childhood Teacher.
Her studies were supported through the Queensland Government’s Qualifications Pathways Program (QPP), delivered in partnership with Lady Gowrie Queensland. Through QPP, Amber received tuition assistance, paid study leave and practical placement support, alongside access to individualised coaching and mentoring. This wrap-around support helped make it possible for her to balance study with work and family life.
Quality early education starts with skilled, supported educators. Lady Gowrie Queensland is proud to partner with the Queensland Government to deliver QPP, supporting educators already working in the sector to gain qualifications, advance their careers and strengthen Queensland’s early childhood workforce.
Amber’s achievement is a wonderful example of what this investment can make possible.
Pictured with local Member for Bulimba, Di Farmer MP, who visited the kindy to celebrate this important milestone.
Well done, Amber. We’re so proud to have you in the role.

SCIENCE WEEK has officially begun! STEM is a big part of early learning, but it's not all about experiments and special materials. Scientific thinking grows by embracing curiosity, exploration and collaboration, and children are naturally inquisitive about, well, EVERYTHING!!
The pros at Science Week teamed up with the University of Canberra to develop fun activities for children aged 2-5, which align with the Early Years Learning Framework and use easy-to-access materials. Like these great bubble mix recipes! What can you find at home to make the biggest bubble?
