We were delighted to host our annual College of Law x QUT Law Society Diverse Voices in Law Breakfast, celebrating the importance of inclusion, diversity and representation within the legal profession.

We are incredibly grateful to our keynote speaker, Jane FitzGerald KC, and our wonderful panellists, Reimen Hii, Ann-Maree David and Ruby Heffernan, for sharing their experiences, perspectives and insights on creating a more inclusive and equitable legal profession. The morning provided an opportunity for meaningful discussion about the importance of advocacy, allyship and creating meaningful change, both within the profession and beyond.

We would like to thank our sponsors, College of Law, Mallesons, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Ashurst Perkins Coie, and HopgoodGanim, for their generous support of this event, as well as their continued commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.

Photos of the event are now accessible through the link in our bio. ✨

Interested in criminal law, advocacy, or both?

The Sentencing Competition is here, and it’s an opportunity not to be missed. The competition is valuable for all students, whether keenly interested in pursuing a criminal law career, or simply looking to expand their advocacy experience.

The QUTLS Sentencing Competition offers a unique opportunity to apply your knowledge developed in LLB106 Criminal Law in a practical and real-world way, alongside fellow students and industry professional judges. Why not give it a go and begin your exploration of the dynamic world of criminal sentencing?

First-years and competitors of all experience levels are encouraged to register to develop foundational mooting skills and gain courtroom experience with relatively low preparation required.

As a competitor, you will prepare and deliver oral submissions acting as either prosecution or defence. You will research and apply legislative principles and relevant case law in the context of a real-world problem, designed to explore the balancing act courts undertake every day to keep our community safe.

Students compete individually, preparing 6 - 15 minutes of oral submissions. A new problem is provided for each round of the competition. Before registering, please ensure you review the Sentencing Competition Rules available on the QUTLS website to confirm your eligibility.
