Semester 1 has been an exceptional few months for advocacy at the QUTLS, and we could not be prouder of every student who put themselves forward to compete. Whether you progressed through the rounds, competed in the preliminaries, remained on a waitlist, or simply took the first step by registering, we commend you for having the courage to get involved.

Each competition could not be made possible without the generous support of our sponsors, judges and student volunteers. We extend a sincere thank you to every practitioner or judge who gave their valuable time, expertise and feedback to support students and help them grow in their mooting. We would also like to thank our amazing volunteers from the QUTLS Law R***e team and the wider public for acting in the Witness Examination Competition and creating an immersive experience for the competitors.

Here is a look back at the semester.

As we head towards Semester 2, look out for registration links for the Championship Moot, Sentencing Competition, and Client Interview Competition. Whether you’re an accomplished mooter or looking for a smooth introduction to advocacy, there’s a competition for you.

Calling all penultimate and final year law students. Applications are now open for 2026-27 NSW Summer Clerkships.

Not all corporate law firms are the same. The only way to understand the work and culture is to experience it for yourself.

Our clerkships offer a unique chance to experience up to two practice areas in corporate law and learn from some of Australia’s most talented legal minds. In Sydney, we offer a summer clerkship with two 4-week rotations across two practice areas and the option to apply for the Aurora Internship, a fully funded 5- to 6-week winter internship. Clerkship rotations are available across all our practice areas, as well as our pro bono and innovation teams.

With a challenger mindset, Gilbert + Tobin is always pushing the status quo and taking a stand on things that matter. That’s why we constantly seek new ideas, fresh energy and different perspectives from our clerks and graduates. Work at the forefront of significant change in our society and economy, and open the door to experiences that will shape your career – wherever you want it to take you.

Apply before 12 July: https://www.gtlaw.com.au/careers/early-careers

The QUT Law Society recently hosted our 2026 Clerkship Symposium event!

This event brought together representatives from nine firms, who provided students with insights on how to navigate Clerkship applications. It was a successful evening full of meaningful networking and insightful presentations. We are incredibly grateful for all the panelists and presenters who provided attendees with a clearer understanding of firms' clerkship programs and what they are really looking for in applicants.

We would like to give a special thanks to our sponsors: Ashurst, Clayton Utz, Cooper Grace Ward, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, HWLE Lawyers, Mallesons, McCullough Robertson, MinterEllison and Talbot Sayer.
