🌱 Federation University research is helping turn a community vision for the future of the Latrobe Valley’s former mine lands into action.
A new two-year collaborative research project, led by Federation University and the Cooperative Research Centre for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRC TiME), will explore what is needed to put the community’s preferred future land uses into practice.
Research and consultation with more than 100 community members has already identified a range of possibilities for the region, including enhanced biodiversity, new energy generation, affordable housing, spaces for recreation, food production and culture and arts spaces
The project will build on this community vision while examining the planning, policy and governance needed to support its implementation.
Working alongside Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, mine operators, Latrobe City Council and government departments, the project will bring together local knowledge and expertise to help shape the region’s next chapter.
