Millenba Millenba is an alternative state high school located in Tennyson (8km south of Brisbane’s C*D).

Millenba supports secondary students who have disengaged from mainstream education due to complex and ongoing mental health challenges.

💻 Digital Technologies | Term Highlights 🤖

This term, our students have been exploring how computational thinking can help us develop creative digital solutions. From designing algorithms and developing coding skills to taking their first steps into Python programming, there has been plenty of problem-solving and hands-on learning along the way!

Students have used a range of exciting tools and platforms, including micro:bit, Minecraft and GROK Academy, to apply their knowledge and extend their learning.

We finished the term with a hands-on challenge using our new LEGO SPIKE Prime kits—building, coding, testing and refining our creations! 🤖🧱💡
What a fantastic way to finish a term of digital creativity, collaboration and innovation! 🚀

🐝 Our native bees are back! 🐝

We welcomed native bees back into the Millenba garden this week, just in time for the start of spring!

Ian from A Green Soul Native Bees visited us to deliver our new beehive and an amazing workshop all about our local native bees. Did you know there are more than 2,000 different varieties of native bees in Australia?

Students also had the opportunity to make their very own bee hotels, providing a safe place for solitary native bees to nest. In fact, solitary bees are far more common than the social bees that live together in hives!

We’re so excited to have our busy bees back at work and can’t wait to see how they help our garden grow, bloom and thrive!

🍕 Our Food Tech groups have been busy making pizzas, learning about the properties of yeast, proofing dough and designing pizzas with dietary considerations in mind.

Students created some delicious combinations, including potato and rosemary with mushrooms, ham and pineapple, and chicken and bacon with garden herbs. The baking of all that cheesy goodness could be smelt across the campus!

And the old debate continues… does pineapple belong on a pizza?! 🍍

Fried rice proved to be a popular choice as our students were challenged to design, create and present their very own adaptation of this classic dish. From selecting ingredients to experimenting with flavours and presentation, students put their creativity and practical cooking skills to the test.

💜 Wear It Purple Day | Colours of Courage 🌈

Today we celebrated Wear It Purple Day, recognising the courage, resilience and authentic expression of LGBTQIA+SB young people, as well as the allies and communities who stand alongside them.

With this year’s theme, ‘Colours of Courage’, we celebrated the bravery it takes to be true to yourself, stand up for change and help create safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.

Students and staff came together through fun activities including making rainbow shoelaces and bracelets and creating identity stickers and colourful chalk drawings — celebrating inclusion, diversity and being proud of who you are and who you are becoming.

At Millenba, we are committed to creating safe, inclusive and empowering spaces where every young person feels respected, valued and supported to be their authentic self. 💜🌈

Science Term 3
Who committed the crime? Our students are putting their science skills to the test in an exciting Murder Mystery Chemistry Unit! Each week, students investigate clues and complete hands-on science experiments to eliminate suspects and get closer to solving the mystery. From building compounds, chemical reactions and pH testing to chromatography and forensic-style investigations, students are developing their scientific thinking while having plenty of fun along the way. Will they crack the case? Stay tuned! 🔬🫆🧐
