Last night we held our annual NAIDOC Week celebrations!
We started the evening with a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony in the Quad by Tribal Experiences giving students the opportunity to reflect on the 2026 NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly.
We were fortunate to welcome back Emmanuel College alumnus, Lachlan Bon (EMC 2016-2017), who spoke about the importance of legacy, acknowledging the impact of those who have come before us and challenging us to think about the legacy we want to leave and the role we all play in building a more inclusive Australia. Lachlan met his wife Nia during his time at Emmanuel and it was wonderful to welcome back Nia (EMC 2015-2016) to take part in the celebrations as well. Since leaving Emmanuel, Lachlan has forged a successful career in marketing currently working as a Senior Marketing and Communications Officer within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) at the University of Queensland.
Marking the start of Semester 2, our NAIDOC Formal Dinner was a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together and start the semester together in celebration, reflection and respect.
