Manufacturing cell therapies for spinal injuries, malaria vaccine development, and testing medical devices will be the cornerstone of Griffith University’s new Health and Advanced Technology Research and Innovation Centre (HATRIC).

A sod-turning ceremony was held today as construction company ADCO Constructions started work in the heart of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, with HATRIC due for completion in May 2028.

HATRIC will house cutting-edge projects from Griffith University Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics (IBG), Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies Institute (ADaPT Institute), and an expanded Griffith University Clinical Trial Unit alongside start-up and scale-up spaces.

Australia's Federal Treasurer and Griffith alumnus, Jim Chalmers MP, sat down with Griffith Business School students yesterday to chat about Australia's economic future and the importance of economic reform.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions directly, share issues that matter most to them and hear firsthand from someone shaping national policy.

Creating opportunities for students to engage directly with leaders in business, government and industry is an important part of the Griffith experience, connecting classroom learning with real-world conversations. 🌏📈

Griffith University athletes and Para-athletes delivered an extraordinary 39 medals and broke records across the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, reinforcing the University as a powerhouse of Australian sport.

The remarkable result saw Griffith athletes secure 21 gold, six silver, and 12 bronze medals, a score that would place Griffith fourth overall on the Commonwealth Games medal tally if it was a competing nation.

That’s the equivalent of more than one million pieces of single-use plastic eliminated from Griffith’s food outlets since joining the Plastic Free Places program in 2024.
 
As Plastic Free July comes to a close, we’re celebrating this milestone alongside the launch of the Gold Coast’s first reusable coffee cup swap system (Cercle Co Pty Ltd) at Griffith.
 
From reusable cups and takeaway containers to compostable coffee cups and lids, small changes across our campus have added up to a significant reduction in single-use plastic.
 
Here’s to continuing the journey towards a plastic-free future. ♻️

From elite athletes to future health professionals on placement, it was a great day bringing the community together.

From the classrooms of Griffith to remote villages in Laos 🌏❤️

For nursing student Hannah, a four-week community placement in the remote highlands of Laos became an experience she'll never forget.

Living in the village of Pak Xeng, Hannah immersed herself in the local community, staying with a host family, travelling to surrounding villages, and working alongside local healthcare teams to provide essential healthcare, medications and health education.

"It opened my eyes to the beauty of cultural immersion and the importance of community nursing."

Throughout the placement, Hannah helped deliver health promotion initiatives including hand hygiene education, oral health awareness, manual handling techniques and reproductive health conversations with local students. While medications and supplies were important, Hannah says it was sharing knowledge that left the greatest impact.

The experience strengthened her passion for nursing, broadened her understanding of healthcare in diverse communities, and reinforced the importance of connection, compassion and cultural understanding in patient care.

We're proud to see Griffith students making a difference around the world and bringing these invaluable experiences back into their studies and future careers.
