STATE FINALS BOUND đź’™

This weekend, 40 of our dancers head to the Sunshine Coast for the Dance X State Finals.

Our Dance Excellence students and Junior Troupe take the stage on Saturday, and our Senior Troupe follows on Sunday. Behind every routine are months of early rehearsals, teachers who stayed back, and families who drove to every practice.

They earned their place at the North Brisbane Regional Competition, where they were named Regional Champions in Senior Secondary Jazz, won two special awards and placed in 16 sections.

Help us send them off 👇
Leave a good luck message in the comments. We'll read them to the dancers backstage before they perform.

Know a young dancer starting high school soon? Dance is one of Wavell's six Programs of Excellence, where students train, perform and compete from Year 7. Learn more about Dance at Wavell for 2027 at the link in our bio.

Four subjects. Four full-mark results.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Keelin Wood, who achieved full marks across four of his IA3 internal assessments: 25/25 in Engineering, 25/25 in Literature, 15/15 in Mathematical Methods and 15/15 in Specialist Mathematics.

Keelin credits his results to maintaining a focused mindset, setting clear goals and dedicating consistent time to studying and retaining the knowledge required across each subject.

He is particularly proud of his results in Specialist Mathematics and Engineering, which required a significant investment of time and effort.

His advice to other students is straightforward: set a goal that genuinely matters to you, stay focused and put in the work required to achieve it.

After graduation, Keelin plans to study Mechanical Engineering at QUT through early entry. He is also working towards an ATAR above 99 and hopes to secure an academic scholarship.

Ambition, discipline and a clear direction for the future. Congratulations, Keelin - we can’t wait to see where your hard work takes you next.

If you’re looking for a school that combines high academic expectations with the support students need to achieve their goals, Wavell could be the right fit for your family.

Enrolment interviews will take place over the coming weeks. Families considering Wavell for 2027 are encouraged to complete their enrolment application and secure an interview time.

A powerful debut for Sköll 39.

Our newest Rock School band made their first public appearance at Arts Fest, bringing a distinctly heavy rock sound to the PAC Carpark stage.

Taking inspiration from bands including Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains and System of a Down, Eli, John, Jackson and Shaun delivered a performance packed with energy and attitude.

Named after the wolf Sköll from Norse mythology, this is only the beginning for Sköll 39. Congratulations on an impressive first performance.

Turning up the volume at Arts Fest.

UltraViolette, Rock School’s all-girl band, brought a bold alternative-rock sound to the PAC Carpark. With multiple vocalists and plenty of energy, Lily, Lily, Isabella, Sophie, Lara, Caitlin and Nurjenna kept the crowd engaged with Do I Wanna Know? by Arctic Monkeys, Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine and Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand.

Congratulations to UltraViolette on a confident and memorable Arts Fest performance.

**One more look at Arts Fest 2026.**

Beyond the performances, it was the people who made Arts Fest special—students cheering each other on, families in the audience and staff helping bring it all together.

This final collection of moments celebrates the creativity, hard work and community behind the event. From our performers to our Tech Crew, thank you to every student who played a part.

And to everyone who came along to support the arts at Wavell—thank you for being part of the audience our students deserve.

Wavell rocked the chop - and smashed the goal! ✂️

At their final assembly, our Year 12 students took part in Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project, chopping their hair to support people impacted by cancer.

Together, the Wavell team has raised more than $9,000, tripling its original $3,000 target. These funds will support vital cancer services, prevention programs and lifesaving research.

A huge congratulations to every student who took part - and thank you to everyone who donated and supported them.

One final performance. One unforgettable legacy.

Evergreen, Rock School’s most senior and longest-running band, took to the Arts Fest stage for their final festival performance - delivering a powerful set featuring Black Sheep by Metric, Death by Rock and Roll by The Pretty Reckless and Zombie by The Cranberries.

Kasia, Annabelle, Elise, Oliver and Noah filled the PAC Carpark with energy and kept the crowd engaged from beginning to end.

Congratulations, Evergreen, on an incredible final Arts Fest performance. Your music, commitment and presence have left a lasting mark on Rock School and the Wavell Arts community.

Four subjects. Four full-mark results.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Hana Irving, who achieved full marks across all four of her IA3 internal assessments: 35/35 in English & Literature Extension, 25/25 in Legal Studies, 25/25 in Literature, and 15/15 in General Mathematics.

Hana credits the support of her parents and teachers, alongside careful weekly planning, for helping her balance school, work and other commitments.

Her advice to other students is simple: putting in the work matters, but so does taking time for yourself, enjoying your senior year and making memories along the way.

After graduation, Hana hopes to spend a gap year in Germany strengthening her language skills before moving to Melbourne to study a dual degree in Law and Psychology.

Balance, hard work, and a clear plan for the future. Congratulations, Hana, we can't wait to see where you go next.

From the classroom to the big stage 🎷

Our WSHS Big Band brought the heat to the Brisbane Youth Jazz Festival, performing alongside some of Brisbane's best young musicians at St Peters Lutheran College.

Sharing the stage with standout ensembles like Young Con and Con Artists, our students held their own and then some, representing Wavell with serious style and skill.

Huge congratulations to conductor Jon Adams for leading the Big Band to such a fantastic performance, and to every student on stage for representing Wavell with distinction.
