IML offers courses in 30+ languages including French, Japanese, Spanish, German and Chinese. We also

The IML Team can be contacted during business hours via email or by phone. This page is monitored by part-time staff and we aim to respond within 24 hours except on weekends and public holidays. Most IML language courses currently use the Zoom video conferencing software and some courses are offered face-to-face at the UQ St Lucia campus. The lessons are live and interactive with a tutor and small group of students held at the advertised time. IML LANGUAGE COURSES

The UQ Institute of Modern Languages is Queensland’s leading provider of language courses using a communicative approach to teaching and learning. All four skill areas are covered: learn to speak, listen, read and write for applications in authentic situations where a collaborative team effort is encouraged in class. Cultural segments are integrated with the language acquisition program focusing on general background studies pertaining to the countries and peoples where the targeted language is in use. We also offer translation and interpreting services in:

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide and regional areas in Australia

Our translation services are in over 90 languages including:

Spanish, French, Chinese Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Latin, Greek, German, Arabic, Russian, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Hindi, Farsi, Hebrew and Turkish and more. We have NAATI certified translators for these languages and more who can provide translations of your documents for personal and corporate requests. Enrolments are now open for the Institute of Modern Languages High School Summer Enrichment Program!

This multi-day program is open to students in year 7-12 and offered in: French, German, Japanese or Spanish.

Classes are available online or on campus and run from 11-15 January 2027.

If you’re working with students interested in learning a new language or students who are keen on increasing their proficiency and fluency, now is a great time to encourage them to enrol.
