First ever Little Building Co modelmaking workshop completed. For something we conceived and orchestrated it didn’t go as we planned… How could this happen!
When you get 8 headstrong people (and that appears to be a trait of my customer base) together around a table of course they are going to do things their way. What was I thinking.
Regardless of a few shortcomings on our part and despite all our planning what I can only describe as a ‘Freight Train’ of enthusiasm carried us forward.
Of course there are multiple ways you can construct something and the participants didn’t come to listen to a dictator. They came to have some fun, meet like minded people, talk, talk and talk some more when in my mind they should have been ‘gluing’.
I’d planed for a tea party, there were biscuits, strawberries, and homemade chocolate brownies (thanks to Renée Tongia-Royle) which were eventually consumed when the ‘gang’ felt they were happy with their progress.
Our workshop was also open for participants to wander through which helped us to explain more about our process and the urban myth that it’s all done by a laser… all we do is press the button.
Despite all the chit chat there were moments of quiet when 8 people appeared to be focused on the task to hand. The model was constructed in section and it was clear to see people satisfaction on completing these and the realisation that they were actually doing a good job. Once all the sections were completed rapidly progress was made when the assembly process began.
Our initial fears that the table was going to resemble a construction site where the client had run out of funds or a war zone were dispelled on seeing all the models come together as planned.
