Sometimes the most meaningful learning experiences aren't planned.
This morning, during our Australian Animals week, we discovered mama poss looking unwell in my undercover storage area. The children and I safely transported her to the vet across the road, where she was taken in and wildlife carers were contacted to help.
We chatted about how vets are doctors for animals, why it's important to care for sick or injured wildlife, and how we can all help look after the amazing creatures we share our environment with.
The children have shown so much kindness and concern for our furry visitor and are eagerly waiting to hear how she's doing.
We're hoping for good news for mama poss as she has been apart of our space so long.

As part of my Seasonal Planning Tuesday is our creating and craft day .
Today we explored clouds through conversation and art, using sponge brushes to create stormy rain clouds complete with sparkling “raindrops.” During the experience, one of the children shared that sometimes clouds are fluffy and white on sunny days, inspiring us to create a second artwork with bright sunshine skies too.
I love how creative experiences can grow naturally from children’s ideas and observations of the world around them

Winter has arrived at Mims Place!
Our Winter program is now underway and has been planned around the children's interests while supporting the developmental needs of each little person in my care.
This season we'll continue following a weekly rhythm, with each day having its own special focus:
Tuesday – Creating and Craft
Wednesday – Sensory Play and Fine Motor Fun
Thursday – Cooking
Friday – Music, Movement and Educator play group
Alongside these planned experiences, we'll continue to spend plenty of time outdoors exploring, playing, and connecting with nature. Winter might bring cooler weather, but fresh air, muddy puddles, and outdoor adventures are all part of the fun!
I'm looking forward to a season filled with warm connections, happy hearts, lots of learning, and plenty of outdoor play.
"Keep an eye on our page throughout the season as we share some of our Winter adventures and learning journeys!"

On Thursdays we cook
A cool rainy day called for something warm, yummy and healthy for little tummies, so today we made Sweet Potato Mini Muffins
I pre-roasted and pureed the sweet potato, then together the children measured, mixed and baked our muffins before enjoying a taste test while they were still warm.
Cooking experiences are such a wonderful way to build confidence, encourage communication, develop fine motor skills and introduce healthy foods in a fun and meaningful way

Today on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and their families.
This year’s theme, From Sorry to Action, reminds us that listening, learning and truth-telling must be followed by meaningful action. At Mim’s Place, we believe children grow through connection, respect and understanding of the histories and cultures that shape our country.
We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and recognise the ongoing impacts of removal, trauma and disconnection that continue across generations. 🖤💛❤️

Today we celebrate all the women who nurture, guide, comfort, encourage, and love so deeply. To the mums, grandmothers, aunties, mentors, carers, and special people who help little hearts grow, thank you for the care and kindness you bring into the world each day.
Wishing a beautiful Mother’s Day to all who mother in their own unique way

Last week at Mim’s Place we explored healthy food choices.
In the home corner the healthy foods and treats were sorted along with lots of discussion around our favourite foods.
The children have been busy little growers this season , there was lots of excitement harvesting our homegrown chard and proudly taking some home to share with their families. Such a sense of achievement growing from tiny seeds to full grown plant.
At storytime, we followed the journey of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then brought our own
caterpillars to life with watercolours. While everyone started with the same shape, the magic happened in the making… each artwork unfolding in its own unique way, full of personality, colour, and creativity
A beautiful reminder that even when we begin the same, we all bloom a little differently

As part of our Anzac Day exploration the little people created small poppy wreaths as a way to acknowledge ANZAC Day. With young children, I explain ANZAC Day in a gentle and age-appropriate way as a time to remember brave people who helped keep others safe, and to say thank you for their kindness and service.
Through simple hands-on experiences like wreath making, children are introduced to the ideas of remembrance, gratitude and respect. Creating poppy wreaths also supports creativity and meaningful conversations about caring for others and being part of a community. Even the youngest learners can begin to understand the importance of remembering those who helped others.

As part of our lead up to ANZAC Day, the little people enjoyed making ANZAC slice together. A simple cooking experience like this helps children connect with history and tradition in ways they can understand through touch, smell, taste and working together.
While mixing, measuring and sharing, children develop early maths skills, language, cooperation and confidence. It is a lovely way to honour the spirit of resilience, resourcefulness and community that ANZAC Day represents.
