Today Miss Beccy, Miss Christina and Miss Bec attended a training session with Queensland Mental Health through the QLD Government to learn more about the Birdie Tree resources and how they can support children in our sector.
Birdie Tree provides storybooks designed to help children understand natural disasters that can happen in our environment, while also teaching them ways to prepare and cope. The stories are written in a reassuring way so children feel supported and understand that the adults around them are there to keep them safe.
We were very lucky to receive resource packs which include 11 storybooks and 2 puppets that bring the stories to life for the children. These resources will be a wonderful way for us to support conversations about feelings, safety and resilience in an age-appropriate way.
We’re excited to start sharing these stories with the children! 🌳📚

🌟 Taigum Talks: Parenting Insights Series 🌟 This month, we’re focusing on Encouraging Curiosity and Scientific Thinking in Everyday Life.
Curiosity is the engine of learning. Children who ask questions, explore, and experiment develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love of discovery that will last a lifetime.
Learn More: https://www.whizkidz.com.au/encouraging-scientific-thinking-with-what-if-questions-in-early-childhood-education/
Here are some ways to foster curiosity at home:
✅ Encourage “why” and “what if” questions and explore answers together.
✅ Set up simple experiments: mix colours, plant seeds, or observe insects.
✅ Explore nature: notice patterns, textures, and changes on walks.
✅ Celebrate discoveries, curiosity is a skill worth encouraging!
Why it matters: Children who engage in questioning and exploration develop creativity, confidence, and a love of learning (Australian Early Learning Framework, 2023).

Even children who poo daily can still be constipated.
Signs to look out for:
• Withholding
• Large or painful stools
• Skid marks in underwear
• Frequent small wees
Small clues can explain big struggles.
💡 If you’re unsure, speak with your GP or health professional for guidance.
Save this for later 💾 and share if it might help another family.
