π Happy Wear It Purple Day! π
πβ¨ BOLD VOICES, BRIGHT FUTURESβ¨π
This yearβs theme Bold Voices, Bright Futures is brought to life through the incredible artwork of Lee Evatt (he/they), a transgender and q***r artist based on Ngunnawal Country.
Leeβs design is inspired by performers and activists across generations, representing the power of community and the bright futures weβre building together. π
Today, we wear purple to stand with LGBTQIA+ young people, to show them they are seen, supported, and celebrated for exactly who they are. π«

ππ Why visible support matters ππ
Today is Wear it Purple Day! A day to celebrate and show support for LGBTQIA+ young people.
Wearing purple might feel like a small act, but to someone struggling with acceptance or belonging, it can mean everything βοΈ
π Itβs a signal of safety β A purple shirt, badge, or ribbon tells young people, βYouβre supported here.β
π It creates visibility β When many people stand together, itβs a reminder that no one is alone.
π It sparks conversations β Symbols of support open the door to education and empathy.
By choosing to wear purple today youβre not just putting on a colour, youβre helping create a campus and community where everyone feels seen, safe, and celebrated.
π Visibility saves lives. Inclusion changes them. π

In a world where many LGBTQIA+ people continue to face discriminatory policies, social exclusion, and structural inequality, itβs easy to feel overwhelmed.
In moments like these, it can be comforting to pause and remember that we are all from and remain interconnected with nature. Nature doesnβt just accept diversity, it relies on it. From thriving ecosystems to resilient communities, diversity is what makes life strong, balanced, and beautiful.
π Q***r is natural.
π You are part of that diversity.
π«Ά You are never alone.

In Australia, LGBTQIA+ people face mental health challenges at much higher rates than their peers.
π Gender Diverse young people are 7x more likely to be diagnosed with depression.*
π 74% of LGB+ people experienced a mental disorder, compared to 41% of heterosexual people.*
For all our LGBTQIA+ and ally staff, students and partners, here are some important reminders:
β€οΈ You donβt have to be out to be valid.
π Who you share your gender or sexual identity with is your choice.
π Your life is YOURS, your journey is YOURS, your timeline is YOURS.
π There is no shame in privacy and safety.
π Wearing purple this Friday will help to show LGBTQIA+ people they are π seen, π accepted, and π«Ά safe

π LGBTIQA+ people use different words to describe sharing their identity. Some say βcoming out,β others prefer βinviting inβ to highlight choice and trust, and some use βdisclosureβ as a more neutral term.
Disclosure can be empowering when shared with supportive people π but it can also bring risks like invalidation, conflict, or discrimination π©π©
Many LGBTIQA+ people choose when and where to be open, balancing safety and authenticity, but not everyone has this choice. Everyoneβs journey is personal, and all experiences of sharing identity deserve respect, safety and understanding. π
