The Animal Studies Trade Taster SEE course is running at TAFE Queensland Ashmore campus in 2026. 🐕
The goal of a trade taster course is to provide participants with a variety of experiences and offer them a broad overview of the industry. The SEE clients taking the course have engaged in practical and immersive activities. At the Animal Welfare League, students completed tasks such as cleaning enclosures, preparing food, and learning how to engage with the animals. Back at Ashmore, they utilised the XR virtual reality lab to learn about animal anatomy and physiology in a more engaging way than pen and paper. They also attended sessions where they were able to interact with more exotic animals, like reptiles.
Each activity is designed to help students explore potential career pathways and make informed decisions about further study.
The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

As Refugee Week continues, it is important to highlight the hard work done by so many people to help refugees settle in Australia.
Rohingya clients are a growing cohort in Queensland due to the persecution they face in Myanmar. Beginning a new life in Australia is full of so many changes and challenges. That is why last month, the AMEP team at Inala coordinated with Mater Refugee and Multicultural Health to deliver two culturally responsive health information sessions to their Rohingya students.
The sessions were delivered in the Rohingya language by bilingual educators and supported by a local GP. The workshops focused on navigating the Australian healthcare system, including accessing interpreters, making appointments, visiting Emergency, understanding Medicare, mental health and wellbeing support, and accessing oral health services.
Thank you to Mater Refugee Health and the AMEP team at Inala for delivering sessions that have such a positive impact on refugees' settlement journey in Australia.

Refugee Week is an annual event that raises awareness of the challenges faced by refugees and celebrates the valuable contributions they make to Australia.
This year's theme is A Million Stories, celebrating the unique journeys of the refugees who have made Australia their home and helped make it the country it is today.
Read about Fidele's journey from a refugee camp in Rwanda to building a new life and career in Townsville.
A new start for Fidele
When 27-year-old Fidele Niyonzima arrived in Australia, he knew only a few English words and greetings. Today, he’s studying Allied Health at TAFE Queensland Townsville (Pimlico) campus, while also learning English through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).

As part of the Youth Career Development Innovative Project, students from the Wivenhoe region participated in a faculty tour of TAFE Queensland, where they explored vocational training facilities and learned about future study options. 🔬
They also observed two workplaces, the Brisbane City Council and IKEA. Staff at the Council discussed adapting to the Australian workplace, and the team at IKEA provided information about their recruitment practices and their Refugee Workforce Inclusion program.
Students then presented personal statements to invited guests, demonstrating meaningful reflection on their emerging vocational identities and the progress made throughout their learning journey.

The Tourism Career Launch Innovative Project is running again on the Gold Coast in 2026. Work experience placements began in April, with all 20 students in the cohort successfully placed with partner hotels across the region. 🌞
The goal of Innovative Projects like this one is to strengthen employment pathways and vocational readiness for AMEP clients. The students attend their work placement 2 days per week, along with their ongoing language and employability training in the AMEP. They are also supported with weekly one‑to‑one pathway guidance from the program teacher to address workplace challenges, support goal‑setting, and plan their next steps toward employment.
Some of the students this semester are Kayo and Kaoru, who are placed at Mantra Legends Hotel, and Xue, Jacky, and Jing, who are at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa.

Meet Denise, one of our wonderful AMEP teachers from Toowoomba, who has taught a range of subjects and students across the world, from Queensland to the UK and Singapore.
Denise has seen first-hand the benefits of learning English in her time as an AMEP teacher, as her students' lives improve with their language skills and they feel a greater sense of belonging in their new community.
"My focus is to lead students to improve their English, become more independent, to be able to make better decisions about their own lives and to participate and contribute positively to the wider Australian community."
These benefits of community and belonging go beyond just her students. Denise believes that "Through learning and developing their skills, one student’s success becomes growth and success for us all."

Last month, the AMEP students in the Inala Pathways to Work class listened to a presentation by Queensland Migrant WorkWise, who equip clients with essential knowledge of Australian work rights, pay entitlements, workplace safety, and where to seek support. 👏
The Inala Pathways to Work class also prepares clients for successful participation in the SLPET (Work Ready) program by providing targeted information, practical activities, and real‑world experiences that build employment readiness and confidence. This includes excursions to local employers where they gain insight into workplace roles, employer expectations, and industry environments.
These experiences support clients to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to transition safely and effectively into SLPET.
