Biome Eco Stores

Biome Eco Stores Zero waste, toxin free, ethical choices, and 100% free of untraceable palm oil. Every purchasing choice you make is a vote for the world you want.

Thirteen years ago I decided to stop worrying that companies were getting away with greenwashing and to do something to create the world I wanted to see. At Biome, we believe in the immense power of individual actions to save our planet. It is impossible to know what chemicals we are being exposed to because manufacturers, who can choose from 30,000 or more synthetic chemicals that have never been assessed for safety, are not required to reveal the full ingredients. Biome's strict standards give you peace of mind. We carefully research, question and verify each supplier for truth in labelling, safe ingredients, and zero harm to people and our world -- right through to the end of a product's useful life. We not only look at personal health, but what is also good for our wider society and environment. Tracey Bailey, Founder of Biome

We created the CastorGuard range to give you an alternative to balms containing petroleum-derived ingredients.

After all, why send petrol to do a plant's job right?!

Petroleum jelly is a by-product of the polluting oil industry. It works by coating skin with an occlusive barrier.

But plants can create protective barriers too!

Castor oil is naturally rich in fatty acids that help nourish, soften and protect your skin.

That’s why you’ll find it in our CastorGuard family of balms

💙 CastorGuard - the original everything balm
❤️ CastorGloss - glossy, moisturised lips without petroleum jelly
💚 CastorClear - chest rub & winter muscle balm
💜 CastorBub - tiny bottom protection

⭐️ 270+ 5-star reviews across the range
Only available at Biome

📣 PSA: Just because something's for sale in Australia… doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Australia only banned PFOA — a PFAS proven to cause kidney and testicular cancer — in July 2025.

Let that sink in:

A chemical that the World Health Organisation has now classified as a known human carcinogen was used in non-stick coatings for decades.
Teflon-coated pans containing PFOA were sold by Tefal from the 1950s until 2013. But, even though Tefal says they stopped using it, there was no regulation over the many brands and cheap imports who likely were still using it. That leaves a good decade between when the dangers of PFOA were known to when Australian banned it last year.

Most non-stick pans now rely on another PFAS "forever chemical" called PTFE. Manufacturers insist these newer PFAS chemicals are “safe”… "as long as the pan isn’t overheated, and the coating isn’t scratched". 🤞

But, no one has proven these replacement chemicals are unequivocally safe — not after long-term exposure, not after years of use, and not under real kitchen conditions.

It is well known that PFAS don’t break down and stay in our bodies for years. They’re linked with hormone disruption, thyroid issues, liver damage, high cholesterol, reduced kidney function, and several cancers.

Unfortunately, humans are crash test dummies until chemicals are proven unsafe. That seems the wrong way around, don't you agree?

💚 Meanwhile, safer choices do exist! Your PFAS-free cookware options are: cast or solid iron, stainless steel, ceramic-coated, and glass or stoneware.

It's no secret that at Biome we are huge fans of Australian made, last for life, solid iron Solidteknics, where you create the non stick surface through seasoning.

If your skin is as dry as mine is right now, you might benefit from dry body brushing 👇️

It is a great practice to have in your skincare routine as it helps remove flaky, scaly, skin helping your skincare products to soak in better. I brush 2-3 times week to keep my skin smooth.

Here's how to dry body brush for smooth skin this spring.

First of all, it's important to be gentle when using the brush, you're not
scrubbing pots and pans!

👉️ Start from your feet and work your way up your legs in long, fluid strokes.
👉️ When it comes to your abdomen, neck and back, focus on gentler circular motions.
👉️ Do your arms last, brushing upwards towards your armpits in long, fluid strokes
👉️ Shower immediately afterwards using a gentle, natural wash or soap followed by a natural body moisturiser.

Make sure you avoid your face and don't use any other type of exfoliation on the days you brush.

How to exfoliate your skin naturally and without irritating your skin 👇

One of the key steps to radiant, healthy skin is regular exfoliation to remove dry, dead skin cells.

The problem with many store-bought scrubs is that they can contain things like plastic microbeads, palm oil-derived ingredients, sodium lauryl sulphate, and synthetic colours, fragrances, and preservatives – ingredients that are no good to anyone or the environment.

That’s why we always come back to something simpler: exfoliating with natural ingredients, and where you can, using natural exfoliating tools as well.

Your food prep shouldn't come with a side of plastic crumbs from your chopping board.

Instead, choose a wooden chopping board.

Biome’s camphor Laurel chopping boards are made from a single piece of salvaged camphor laurel - no synthetic lacquer coating, no pieces glued together.

A simple kitchen swap if you’re trying to reduce plastic, especially plastic that touches our food.
