At our centre, when it’s a child’s birthday, we don’t just choose a cake for them — we ask them what they would like! We love giving children the opportunity to share their ideas, make decisions and see their voice reflected in their special celebration.

Today, when we asked what sort of cake they would like, the answer was simple: “A rainbow!” 🌈💕

Our amazing chef got creative and brought their idea to life with this beautiful rainbow cake — complete with fluffy clouds underneath! ☁️🌈

It’s these little moments that make birthdays so special. From listening to their ideas to creating something just for them, we love celebrating each child in a way that feels meaningful and truly theirs. 🥰

This Friday, 24 July, our Goodstart Coorparoo – Cavendish Road community will be wearing our favourite pyjamas to support The Pyjama Foundation.

The Pyjama Foundation helps children in foster care build confidence, improve literacy and learning, and create brighter futures through one-on-one mentoring.

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

🌟 What a wonderful week of learning in Kindy! 🌈🍎

Our Kindy children have been busy exploring body safety and healthy lifestyles through hands-on, play-based learning. They created giant fruit and vegetable artwork 🎨🥕, practised writing their names and exploring syllables 🔤, and worked together on beautiful glittery fish creations 🐠✨.

It has been wonderful to see the children building their confidence, working together, asking thoughtful questions, and developing important skills through play every day. We're so proud of their enthusiasm for learning and can't wait to see what next week brings! 😊💛

🔬 Exploring, experimenting & discovering in Kindy 🌊✨

Our Kindy children have been busy exploring the world of science through hands-on investigation! From observing textures and materials to experimenting with water, colour, movement and cause-and-effect, the children have been using their curiosity to guide their learning.

Through these experiences, children are developing problem-solving skills, making predictions, sharing ideas and working together as little scientists. 💡🧪

We love seeing their questions, discoveries and the joy they find in exploring the world around them. 🌱
