Hands up if you like physics! ✋

There are 85 pairs of hands raised in response to that question Good Shepherd Catholic College - Mount Isa, judging by the Year 7 students' enthusiastic response to our 'Pulleys for Productivity' workshop yesterday.

The mechanics of pulley systems and how it is used in mining operations was explained to the students by Glencore MIM's Ed (mining engineer); Shaun (mechanical engineer) and Luke (graduate engineer). The students also got plenty of help with their physics experiments from their school QMEA Student Ambassadors, Henry and Xanda.

It was a day full of physics and fun. 😄⚛️

QMEA Student Ambassadors in Focus: New episode 📢featuring Mitchell and Kiara!

Mitchell (Redeemer Lutheran College - Biloela) and Kiara (Holy Spirit College - Mackay) might come from different parts of regional Queensland and have their own ways to relax, but they've got a common goal - to study engineering at university after school.

It has been a big couple of weeks of STEM workshops for the newest Brisbane school to join the QMEA network - Moreton Bay Boys' College. We've had a lot of fun working with the students - showing them how STEM connects into the resources industry.

Coding⌨️, creativity💡 and collaboration👥 at Capella and Clermont!

Siobhan and Rory from Glencore Coal Australia joined us at Capella State High School, helping Year 7 students with our coding workshop and giving them insight into how technology is being used in their operations.

This learning experience was consolidated with a Beakers. Bots. Build. workshop the next day, with students from Clermont State High School joining in for a full day of STEM experiments and finding out more about the exploration and production of coal in the region.

❓Question: What do you get when you add 25 students + 2 industry reps + 1 QMEA educator + a bucketload of STEM equipment?
✔️Answer: A day filled with science learnings and discovering careers in resources!

Year 10 students at Sarina State School found this out at our recent STEM Unearthed workshop delivered in partnership with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) who had two of their team, Greg and Jacinta, on hand to help guide the students and share their career stories.

Powering up at Pioneer! 🔧

Our next episode of Ambassadors in Focus features Tiani and Alex from Pioneer State High School in Mackay.
These two friends like different foods and holiday destinations but they also have something in common, a love of trades and a desire to work in the resources sector after school.
They also both like a laugh 😆

Pioneer State High School is fortunate to have two great QMEA Student Ambassadors this year!

Teamwork, challenges and career inspo all in one day! 🚀🤝

Year 10 students at Miles State High School explored future pathways at a recent hands-on Careers4Me workshop delivered with the support of Origin Energy.

With team-building activities, problem-solving challenges and individual career profiling, students got a real taste of where their skills and interests could take them once they've graduated from school. It was a BIG day of discussion, ideas and career planning.

Huge thanks to the Origin team for sharing their stories and sparking ideas for the future! ⭐🔍

It's been a BIG 2️⃣ days of STEM at Redeemer Lutheran College, Biloela.
🔧Tuesday: Years 7 and 8 students got hands-on with hydraulics, creating model hydraulic arms.
⚗️Wednesday: Year 10 students explored how STEM is shaping the modern resources sector with team members from Batchfire Resources.

The partnership with Batchfire is giving Biloela students the chance to connect classroom learning with future careers they can pursue in their hometown, including emerging roles like data analytics, mapping and programming in addition to traditional STEM roles.
