connecting Queensland students with STEM, trades and careers in the minerals and energy sector. The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) is a highly successful industry-led education initiative. Over the past two decades the QMEA, as the education arm of the Queensland Resources Council (QRC), has played a pivotal role in inspiring and preparing over 65,000 Queensland students to pursue careers in the resources and energy sectors. The QMEA provides hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and trade workshops with the support of industry partners. These learning opportunities open students to the possibility of potential careers in the resources industry through university study and apprenticeship pathways into the resources industry. The QMEA's Minerals and Energy Gateway to Industry Schools project and Regional Hubs program are proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

Working holidays!

Five Year 12 students from our QMEA Ambassador and GIRLS mentoring program, stepped into the world of work over the school holidays with a one-week immersion with Glencore Technology.

Over the week Seth, Rhianna, Mitchell, Marcus and Ella got to shadow employees and see how technology is tested at Core Resources, the students explored career pathways across the business from accounting to engineering.

The week was a brilliant opportunity to turn career curiosity into real-world experience and gave the Year 12 students a stronger understanding of the fields they would like to pursue after school.
This is the second year the successful program has been facilitated by Glencore Technology and we thank them for their investment in the next generation of innovators.

It's footy finals season and our next two ambassadors, Jake The Cathedral College - Rockhampton and Ethan Moranbah State High School, are both keen NRL followers and understandably fans of the North Queensland Cowboys, with the Broncos getting the 'second-favourite' team credit from Ethan. 🏉

They're also keen on creating a trades career once school is over. 🔧

Jake and Ethan have been outstanding QMEA Student Ambassadors this year and we are sure they are going to continue making a big impression when they join the resources workforce.

Powering into the future! ⚡

Twenty students from Calliope State High School and Toolooa State High School joined us CQUniversity Gladstone camps for the Powering our Future workshop last week, delivered in partnership with ConocoPhillips, downstream operator of APLNG.

Students explored the National Electricity Market, tested different energy concepts, and learned how gas and renewables work together to keep electricity flowing.

A big thank you to Mick Calleja for joining us at the workshop and sharing his real-world experience as an operator from the Curtis Island gas plant. 👏

Future tradies in action! 👷‍♀️🔧

Eleven students from Moura and Biloela spent three days at Moura State High School building and testing model mine vehicles as part of the QMEA Resources Skills Academy’s Oresome Trades Camp, supported by Anglo American.

With help from Dawson Mine tradespeople, students got to practice real trade skills, ask questions and see where an apprenticeship or trade career in resources could take them.💡🔧

Year 7 students at Marist College Emerald have delved deep into a full-day of STEM learning - exploring how physics, engineering and earth sciences apply to the resources industry through our STEM Day workshop. The students investigated the mechanics of pulleys, physics of flight and the minerals and metals essential for powering modern technology.

This follows a recent Tradies for a Day workshop with Year 9 VET students, both workshops delivered with our industry partners Whitehaven Coal with members of their trades and geology teams attending each of the workshops to help the students and connect their learning back to real world operations.

From trade pathways to STEM learning, these workshops are helping students discover more about resources and the potential future they could have in the industry.

Students from Duaringa State School, Dingo State School and Bluff State School took part in a Mining Big Ideas workshop this week - learning more about mining exploration and extraction processes related to industry in the Bowen Basin.

They had experts from the Magnetic SouthCommunity team on hand to answer their geology and technology questions and had a lot of fun completing the Physics in Flight and Robotics challenges.
