𝗜𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻 (𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟰–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲)

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our most cherished and oldest alumni, Audrey Morgan, who recently celebrated her remarkable 102nd birthday.

Audrey was a much-loved member of the St Aidan's community, and her life was one of grace, resilience, friendship and service. She remained deeply connected to our school family throughout her life and will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Audrey's family has kindly extended an invitation to the St Aidan's community to join them in celebrating her life.

Are you a St Aidan's alumna working in education? We are delighted to invite you to join us for an engaging and interactive workshop with Dr Stephanie MacMahon, Program Director at UQ Learning Lab and Senior Lecturer at the UQ School of Education.

This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the development of the St Aidan's Learning Framework, and the evidence base that underpins it.

Held on Thursday 8 October at St Aidan's, Dr MacMahon will explore how the evidence-informed principles underpinning the framework align with our Strategic Intent and shape the pedagogical practices that empower every girl to thrive in the classroom and beyond. We will define what the Science of Learning really is, using evidence from international literature and Dr McMahon will invite participants to reflect on how the Science of Learning affirms and extends great teaching with a holistic focus on the learner and their context. Together we will unpack key principles and strategies of the Science of Learning and Co-design ways to enact them in practice.

Whether you are just starting out in your teaching career or are a seasoned educator, this is a wonderful opportunity to come back to St Aidan's, connect with St Aidan’s staff and walk away with something genuinely useful for your classroom.

For $150 per guest, you will enjoy a three-course lunch, accompanied by a drink on arrival to start the celebrations in style. A cash bar will then be open throughout the afternoon. Setting the tone for the day will be the sensational American soul singer Lisa Hunt.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗔 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲

Following the response to our last post on the Angelus Bell, we wanted to share a little more about this cherished tradition that continues to ring out across our school each day. Tradition lives on with the Angelus. The ringing of the Angelus Bell is a valued tradition of St Aidan's, following the practice of the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent. Its origins are somewhat obscure, but they are clearly rooted in the monastic prayers of the hours.

In medieval Europe, village church bells would ring to signal the time for the Angelus prayer. Workers in the fields would pause and pray, remembering the announcement to Mary by the angel Gabriel that she would become the mother of Jesus.

Our Archives holds a tapestry of the famous French painting by Millet, The Angelus, depicting two farm workers bowing their heads in prayer as the Angelus bell tolls from a distant church across the fields, a timeless and moving image.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

We are delighted to announce Ms Cecile Wake (1987) as the recipient of the 2026 Caroline Amy Award, St Aidan's pinnacle Alumni Award.

Named in honour of Caroline Amy Balguy, founder of the Society of the Sacred Advent, this award recognises alumni whose lifelong achievements and service have made a significant impact through professional excellence, leadership and contribution to the wider community.

Cecile's remarkable career spans more than 30 years across the energy, resources and legal sectors. She currently serves as Country Chair of Shell Australia and Executive Vice President Integrated Gas Australia, following an accomplished career that includes leadership roles at Shell, BG Group and Arrow Energy, as well as nine years as a corporate partner at a leading international law firm in London.

Beyond her professional achievements, Cecile has dedicated her time and expertise to advancing education and opportunity. A former Chair of the St Aidan's Council, she served the School for nine years and has also contributed to higher education through her service on the Senate of The University of Queensland.

An accomplished athlete, Cecile represented Australia in Modern Pentathlon at seven World Championships, and in 2026 was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to energy supply and education.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

We are delighted to announce Remy Chard (2009) as the recipient of the 2026 Mother Emma Award.

Established in recognition of St Aidan's rich history, the Mother Emma Award celebrates alumni whose entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and vision are creating meaningful impact in their profession, industry or community.

As an Associate Interior Designer at Cox Architecture and founder of Fun Size Studio, Remy has built a career centred on thoughtful, inclusive and future-focused design. Her work spans large-scale education and workplace projects, while also exploring innovative responses to Australia's housing challenges through creative, space-efficient living solutions.

Recognised through the Australian Design Review's inaugural 30 Under 30 program and the 2025 Innerspace Art and Design Prize, Remy is also passionate about supporting emerging designers through mentoring, teaching and industry engagement.
