Kuraby Early Learning Centre

Ocean Life Discovery Program and Shark Discovery Program, are interactive touch and learn session introducing children to a range of interesting marine creatures, including a shark, and inspiring them to learn more about the ocean and take responsibility for marine ecosystems.

During their visit at the service the children were able to have hands-on interaction with live marine animals and artefacts as well as participating in some fun games and activities. The star of the day was Sparrow, a fresh water turtle that the children were very eager to pat.

Today Showtime Stars presented a show called “A Multicultural Adventure”. Through singing and dancing the children learnt about some of the different cultures that make up our world. Culture is the way a large group of people live and share many different things like food, the way they speak, what clothes they wear, customs, beliefs, and religion. Learning about different cultures promotes respectful and caring attitudes within the children and lays the foundation of being an active listener to see other people’s viewpoints.

The children were busy helping Miss Laurellen feed the worms in the worm farm. Just a few more weeks for the worms to setting in before the children start planting some yummy vegetables.

Worm farms are a sustainable practice that teaches children to care for their environment and supports children’s understanding on how we are all connected. Children can become protectors of their environment instilling caring, responsibility and respect attitudes.

Kuraby ELC had two Policeman, Nick, and Dave come to visit the service to talk to the children about what they do and how to be safe. The children learnt what all the different equipment and tools stored in the van was for and also some special equipment on officer vest (radio). The children were also able to sit both in the front as well as the back of the van before we said goodbye to Officers Nick and Dave where they put on the siren and light for children.

A big Thank you to Officer Nick and Dave for visiting us, it was a great experience for children and they loved it.

Kuraby ELC had Ms Meg from Ocean Life Education visit us with lost of different sea animals. Ms Meg took children on a journey under the sea where she showed children pictures and also real sea animals. The children also participated in touching the different sea animals that Ms Meg had set up in the room. But the highlight was patting Sparrow the fresh water turtle that Ms Meg held in her hands.

A big Thank you to Ms Meg from Ocean Life Education the children (and educators) loved this show.
