As we start the last week of term 4 we are grateful for the special moments we have shared with the children at St Thomas’s Riverview Kindergarten In 2022. In the last month we have observed chrysalis to butterflies, shared celebrations as we thanked our families and community for assistance after the flood, the children had the opportunity to display some of their art work. On the evening of Tuesday 22nd November the children enthusiastically performed some of their favourite songs and movement experiences for their families. We are taking enrolments for 2023. There are so many opportunities to connect with nature in our natural environment. In the last 2 weeks we have been observing a family of ducks and their 9 ducklings. We are also very excited to have 2 Tawny Frogmouth babies in our tree.
The parents have been around for a while and in the last 2 weeks we noticed they had a nest. Yesterday there were 2 babies visible in the nest.
We look forward to observing the family as the babies grow and learning more about Tawny Frogmouths.

Being creative with the pottery wheel- This week we introduced clay on the wheel. The pottery wheel is available to the children all year. In term one crayons and paper were provided for the children to create patterns. It takes some effort, coordination and concentration to create patterns on the paper. The children were required to press the pedal with their foot, hold the crayon and apply enough pressure to make marks on the paper. There has been lots of learning as the children have experimented - If too much pressure is applied the paper rips if the wheel is too slow the paper also rips. The children have also practiced patience as they have waited for their friends to have their turn experimenting and creating with no time limit applied. In June we progressed to paint with the children pouring paint from bottles onto the wheel as they got the wheel spinning which required lots of co-ordination. The children experimented with colours and patterns and showed delight in their unique creations. This week Clay was added to the pottery wheel. The children were all eager to have a turn and waited patiently as their friends took time to create a clay creation. The children approached this new experience with confidence and showed pride in their achievements. There was lots of concentration required as they moved the wheel and manipulated the clay.

Come and join our multicultural Community Kindergarten. We are nestled in nature on the river in St Lucia. Our natural environment provides endless opportunities for outdoor exploration and connecting with nature. At St Thomas’s Riverview the Children have time and space to explore, grow, learn and develop as they interact with others and engage in meaningful experiences.
Our educational program has a focus on life skills and we support each individual child to learn and develop essential life skills.
When children complete the Kindergarten year we want them to be independent thinkers, who are able to make choices, solve conflicts, have a love of learning, a willingness to try new tasks, the ability to persist at difficult tasks, to look after their own belongings, ask for help when they need it, communicate their ideas and concerns, be able to express feelings, manage disappointments and show interest in others.
We have places available for 2022 and 2023. Our team will return for term 3 on Monday the 11th of July. Please contact us now to learn more about our educational program. [email protected]
