Looking back on the Clayderman Brisbane concert last month, there is something I want to say about this man. Not about the piano that I had to tune right before the dress rehearsal from A443 to A440, but I was struck by the fact that this man, being THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PIANIST IN THE WORLD (a Guinness World Record holder for record sales), with a successful performance career spanning nearly five decades, remains so humble.

Not long after I finished tuning, he walked on the stage with a few people around him, but instead of sitting down to play the piano, he started preparing his work station, from taping down positions of piano stool and microphone, covering the stool with a big dark grey towel, setting the position of various props, to wiping down the keyboard and piano cover and piano body with a white towel……about 20 minutes detailed work all by himself, always with a smile on his face when approached by others, as if this was his concert of a lifetime……all these reminds me of some artists I worked for who are miles from Richard’s success yet walked around the stage as if the whole universe revolves around them.

After rehearsal, I walked up to see if the piano needed any extra attention, Richard gave me a thumbs up saying it’s all good, then took out a “DO NOT TOUCH“ sign and put it on the music shelf.
