A budget isn't about saying no to everything you enjoy.

It's about deciding what matters to you before your money is spent.

A good budget should make room for the essentials, your goals and some enjoyment too.

That's why I don't believe budgeting should feel like punishment.

When you give your money a plan, you're not restricting yourself. You're making intentional choices about where you want it to go.

๐Ÿ’™ A budget gives your money direction, not restriction.

Do your bills ever feel like they're coming from every direction? ๐Ÿงพ

One of the simplest ways to feel more in control is to get them out of your head and into one place.

Start by listing:

โœ”๏ธ What the bill is
โœ”๏ธ How much it usually costs
โœ”๏ธ When it's due
โœ”๏ธ How often you pay it
โœ”๏ธ Whether it's automatic or you need to pay it manually

When you can see what's coming, it's much easier to plan for it.

I've created a free Budget Right Bill Checklist to help you get organised.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment CHECKLIST below and I'll send it to you. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ What money skills do young Australians need before adulthood?

Young people are making financial decisions earlier than we sometimes realise.

They may have a bank account and debit card before their first job. They're shopping online, using digital payments, seeing Buy Now Pay Later offers and being exposed to constant messages about what they should own, wear and spend.

Then comes their first pay - and suddenly there are even more decisions to make.

My new Budget Right blog explores the practical money skills young Australians can benefit from learning before adulthood - from budgeting and saving to understanding debt, spending habits, bank accounts and what to do when things don't go according to plan.

Because we don't need young people to be perfect with money.

We need to give them a practical place to start. ๐Ÿ’™

September didn't go exactly to plan? ๐Ÿ’™

Don't start over.
Reset and keep going.

Before October begins, ask yourself:
โœจ What worked?
โœจ What didn't?
โœจ What cost more than expected?
โœจ What can I adjust next month?

A budget doesn't have to be perfect to be useful.
It's about learning what's working for your real life and making changes along the way.

๐Ÿ’™ Money stress isn't just about money.

When you're worried about bills, debt or how you're going to make your money stretch, it can affect so much more than your bank balance.

It can affect your sleep, your mood, your confidence and even make dealing with your finances feel overwhelming.

That's why I created the Budget Right Self-Care Toolkit.

It's a free resource designed to help you pause, reset and take care of yourself while you're working through your money challenges.

Because financial wellbeing isn't only about getting the numbers right. Looking after yourself matters too.

Here's a question for you:

What's one money habit you wish you'd learned earlier?

Maybe it's:

๐Ÿ‘‰Saving something from every pay
๐Ÿ‘‰Having an emergency fund
๐Ÿ‘‰Budgeting before spending
๐Ÿ‘‰Understanding credit cards
๐Ÿ‘‰Avoiding buy now, pay later
๐Ÿ‘‰Talking openly about money
๐Ÿ‘‰Not comparing your lifestyle to everyone else's

For me, one of the biggest lessons has been understanding that managing money isn't just about the numbers - our habits and mindset matter too.

What would you add?

Before your next payday arrives, take five minutes to look ahead.

Check these four things:
๐Ÿ’ฐ What's left right now?
๐Ÿงพ What expenses need to be covered before your next pay?
๐Ÿ“… What bills are due shortly after payday?
๐ŸŽฏ What do you want some of your next pay to do for you?

A little planning before the money arrives can make payday feel much less like: "Finally! I have money!"
...followed three days later by: "Where did it all go?" ๐Ÿ˜…

Give your money a job before it gets the chance to disappear.

I wasn't always good with money.

In fact, many of the lessons I now teach came from things I had to learn the hard way.

For a long time, I thought being "good with money" was something some people naturally knew how to do. I've learned that it isn't.

Managing money is a skill.
Budgeting is a skill.
Changing your money habits is a skill.

And like any skill, you can learn, practice and get better at it.

Where you've been with money doesn't have to decide where you go next. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Money skills are life skills.

We teach young people so many things to prepare them for adulthood, but managing money is one area where many are expected to simply figure it out as they go.

Their first pay. Saving for something they want. Understanding credit and debt. Going out with friends without spending more than they can afford. Learning what happens when money doesn't quite stretch to payday.

These are practical skills that can be learned.

That's why I wrote Money, Sorted. Life, Ready. โ€“ Budget Right for Young Adults.

It's designed to help young people aged 16โ€“23 understand their money, build good habits and develop practical skills they can take into adult life.

What if your payday already had a plan before you started spending it?

The Budget Right 70/10/10/10 approach gives your income four jobs:

๐Ÿ  70% - Needs & Lifestyle
๐Ÿ’ฐ 10% - Savings
๐Ÿ’› 10% - Giving
๐ŸŽ‰ 10% - Fun / Splash Cash

It's not about getting every percentage perfect from day one.

If your current circumstances don't allow you to reach these percentages yet, start where you are and work towards them.

The important part is giving your money direction instead of wondering where it disappeared to.
