🌿 A New Addition to Our Bush Tucker Garden 🌿

We are excited to add a Millaa Millaa Bush Tucker plant to our garden!
This native Australian plant produces red and gold speckled edible fruits when ripe and is also known for its traditional use in Aboriginal medicine.
The children will have the opportunity to care for our new plant, observe its growth, learn about native Australian plants and eventually experience harvesting the fruit when it is ready.

We look forward to watching our Millaa Millaa grow!

Our Garden Bed Is Getting Ready for Spring! 🌼🍓

Our little learners have been working hard alongside Miss Megan to prepare our garden beds for a new season of growing.

Together, the children have been getting the soil ready and learning about how we can work with the seasonal calendar and natural weather patterns to support healthy plant growth.

This garden bed will soon become our strawberry and flower garden. We can’t wait to watch the plants grow and see all the beautiful colours brighten up our garden!

🌱 From Science Experiment to Worm Farm

After completing our celery science experiment, we didn’t want to waste the leftover celery, so the children helped give it a new purpose. The celery was carefully cut into smaller pieces using child-safe knives before being added to our worm farm.
Our friends explored sustainability in action by learning that materials and food scraps can have another purpose rather than simply becoming waste.

🌎 Extending Our Learning About the Earth 🌎

Our learning continued today with an exploration of the layers of the Earth using playdough!

The children created their own Earth models, using different colours to represent the layers beneath the surface. They then cut their models in half to reveal what was hiding inside.
This experience encouraged the children to explore concepts such as the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust, while developing fine motor skills, concentration, creativity and problem-solving skills.

🐦 Bird Feeder Update

Our bird feeders are officially ready!
The children have been busy creating their very own bird feeders using recycled materials. They painted and decorated recycled bottles, added natural sticks for perches and filled the feeders with bird seed.

Today, we hung our bird feeders in the trees around our outdoor environment and are excited to see which feathered visitors come to enjoy a snack!

This has been a wonderful opportunity to explore sustainability, reuse materials and care for the wildlife that shares our environment. 💚

What amazing weather we had this morning to spend our day learning outdoors!

After finding some sticks in our outdoor environment, the children enjoyed weaving and creating patterns using colourful wool. Some friends were busy making wands, while others shared ideas about the different ways they could use their creations.

A beautiful hands-on experience encouraging creativity, fine motor skills, problem solving and collaboration.

🍓 From Seed to Strawberry! 🍓

Our little learners have been getting hands-on with the very beginning of the plant life cycle by carefully picking seeds from a strawberry to begin our journey from seed to plant!

This simple activity supported so many areas of development, including fine motor skills, concentration, hand-eye coordination, independence, sensory exploration and an understanding of how plants grow and where our food comes from.

A wonderful example of how everyday experiences can become meaningful learning opportunities at Head Start Montessori. 🌱

🌎 Exploring Our World 🌎

Our little learners at Head Start Montessori have spent the last term exploring countries, cultures, continents, landmarks, oceans and what lies beyond where we live.

Today, Miss Skye extended this learning with a hands-on paper mache Earth activity. The children worked together to create the Earth using paper mache before painting the land and water. As they painted, they explored where each continent is located on the globe.

It is never too early to spark curiosity about the world around us!

Yesterday we were so excited to welcome Ditto from Bravehearts to Head Start Montessori!

Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure teaches children important personal safety skills in a fun, engaging and age-appropriate way, including body ownership, recognising safe and unsafe feelings, speaking up and knowing who they can talk to.

We are so grateful to the Bravehearts team for visiting us and giving our children such an important learning experience. 💛
