Since 1969, there has been perhaps no greater public excitement towards the moon than this year.

The Artemis II mission has revitalised interest in looking up, and aiming above and beyond our sky. Even as the world has changed around us, everyone can look up at the same, constant moon. We celebrated International Moon Day this week and remembered the legacy of the past, but also the dreams and collaborations of the future.

Why not look up tonight, and dream of the Moon?

Two weeks ago, the Artemis II crew made history as they completed a flyby of the moon, travelling further than anyone has before. As they came back into contact with those on the ground, mission specialist Christina Koch had an important message: "We are looking back at you. We hear you can look up and see the moon right now. We see you too. When we burned this burn towards the moon, I said that we do not leave Earth, but we choose it... We will always choose Earth. We will always choose each other."

Despite how big the world can seem, we can almost all be captured in a single photograph. Humanity, and our pale blue dot. Happy Earth Day.

Thank you again to all our volunteers this year, from our mentors and industry advisors, to our Red Team and judges! Their work and sacrifices are always invaluable, and the Australian Space Design Competition couldn't run without their dedication and presence. SDCA runs entirely on the work of volunteers, a large network of alumni and members of the industry who are invested in the fostering of tomorrow. We couldn't do any of this without them. Thank you!

Congratulations again to our 2026 ASDC Finals winners, Magellan, from Oakhill College and Sydney Girls High School, and to everyone that participated this year! As always, we were blown away by the results presented, and we can't wait to see what your futures will hold. Thank you also to everyone who has participated in our feedback survey, which will help us make the competition even better for the future. We hope to see you at the Qualifying later this year, keep an eye out for our 2026 season launch!

That's a wrap on Day 1! 💫

After a welcome presentation from President Alex Bowen-Rotsaert and our MC Paul Easton, our companies attended technical and specialist presentations which prepared them for the days ahead. Students then formed their team structures, and were off! They spent the day developing their proposals with guidance and feedback from their mentors, industry advisors, and our expert Red Team.

In the morning, they'll be right back at it, and we can't wait to see what they have developed for their settlements at tomorrow's presentations.
